So...Lets talk about the Wrangler

I've been playing TF2 for 7 months, and my 2nd favourite class at the moment is Engineer. I remember racking up alot of kills with my sentry gun and always trying to wrench someone when they destroyed it. Of course, my 2 favourite items to use as him were the Rescue Ranger and the Wrangler since they could help your sentry survive. However, I get the feeling that the Wrangler became worse after the Gun Mettle update. Before, you could put up your shield and spam the sentry with Rescue Ranger bolts if you had to go up against an uber and you could probably keep your sentry standing for the entire match. But now, the wrangler feels like a weapon that's almost completely useless. For a start, it now takes 3 seconds for the wrangler shield to wear off as opposed to 1 second like before. It may not sound too bad but the 2nd (and definetly biggest) problem is that when the shield is up, your wrench and bolts heal it ALOT less. So now, it takes 3 seconds for the shield to come off and while its up, i doesnt heal very much. This makes it near impossible to keep the sentry alive when using the wrangler while the sentry is put under alot of enemy fire. The wrangler now feels like a weapon that was perfectly fine before, but was nerfed in a bad way. So, those are my thoughts on the current Wrangler. I'd like to hear your thoughts though. Do you think its nearly useless like me or do you think its still ok? Either way, i'd like to hear it.

Why should a sentry be able to withstand an uber push?
Bear in mind that the wrangler still effectively triples the sentry health on its own.
It was a good change if you ask me.

IMO pre Gun Mettle Wrangler was absurdly powerful, boasting a heap of good features for a small penalty (manual aiming which still had traces of autoaim, shield, long range). It definitely deserved a nerf.

Still gives infinite range, damage reduction and unability to target useless bonk scouts.

Still a great secondary that needed nerfs.

Because a single spy or a few stickies could still take it out. Having a heavy/medic combo do it alone was a bad idea.

meh i mainly use the wrangler for sentry jumping
i rarely use it to tank mainly on mvm
if i need to tank a sentry and there are no teammates its better to retreat it using the RR (rescue ranger) or just use it to stall

What I meant is that it's a good thing that a senty can't stand up to uber pushes. The uber charge has always been for the purpose of breaking nests and holds. Why should one item an engineer has be able to counter this? The change makes it much more fair for the ubering team.

I can see where you're coming from. But the problem I have is that the weapon now became something you'd only use for sentry jumping because for one, if the sentry is put under alot of fire and you use the shield, its very unlikely that it will survive. Secondly, even though the shield DOES triple the hp of the sentry, that stat means absolutely nothing when going up against a heavy (typically the main class ubered) because of his recent buff against sentries. I understand why they would try to give the advantage to the ubered team, but because of that, i feel like the wrangler is nothing more than a sentry jumping tool.
