Team Fortress 2
Help with Directx 8
Hello, In my 1000 hours of playing this game i've had a blast. Sadly my computer is wearing down and getting to the point were 60 fps is the highest i can get. I've seen many compettive players and just random youtubers make there graphics in tf2 turn to ♥♥♥♥. I want my graphics to turn to ♥♥♥♥ so i can get higher fps. I heard that it's directx 8 but how do i turn my graphics to directx 8? Does anyone know how? If you know please tell me it would be much appreciated. Also does it increase the FPS that much or not really? TYTY

You shouldn't want directx 8, you can't see some things in TF2. Anyways, if you want to lower tour graphic details, go to options and click the video option to lower them.

Get chris config. But if you use directx 8 you can't see some features that only available in directx 9 such as glowing cart, glowing Scottish resistance, and the new weapon skins.
Well all my graphic details such as models and textures are all set on low. Everything is on low. But i still only manage 60 fps.

right click TF2 in your steam library, click properties
click the launch options button, and put this in the box:
-dxlevel 81

after that, click okay and launch the game

If you do want to use -dxlevel 81 make sure after you've opened the game for the first time delete the -dxlevel 81 otherwise Steam Overlay won't work.

Get a config, remove gibs and ragdolls, with a config, you can stay in DX9, and still maintain very nice fps.
Alright i've seen a video on how to install chris config, do i have to use the launch options in the file or will it work without it?
After viewing some more videos i wanna just disable ragdolls and gibs without using the chris config. Could i do this by just typing the commands in the TF2 console. Also if i can do i need to type them again everytime i load up tf2?

Direct x8 is no longer support in tf2,

try one of these , -dxlevel 90 and higher
-dxlevel 80
-dxlevel 81
-dxlevel 90
-dxlevel 95
-dxlevel 98

dxlevel <level> - Forces a specific DirectX version when launching the game. This is useful if your graphics hardware is older, and gets significantly better performance in an earlier version of DirectX. Below are the most common modes used:

// Disable ragdolls
cl_ragdoll_fade_time 0
cl_ragdoll_forcefade 1
cl_ragdoll_physics_enable 0
g_ragdoll_fadespeed 0
g_ragdoll_lvfadespeed 0
ragdoll_sleepaftertime 0

// Disable gibs
cl_phys_props_enable 0
cl_phys_props_max 0
props_break_max_pieces 0
r_propsmaxdist 1
violence_agibs 0
violence_hgibs 0

Put these lines to autoexec.cfg and TF2 should now no longer generate ragdolls and gibs.

Oh, i though you already have one.

Yes, just got to
Steam\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\cfg
and then create autoexec.cfg
