Connection failed after 4 retries.
This is different my brother and I have both our own computers. Now we like to play Cactus or Asteroid occasionally with some friends, but when one of us is in a server the other can't join, our friends can but not one of us. We use the same internet, and when one of us is in a server with our friends the other cant join and the, "connection failed after 4 retries" message appears. I don't know if this is a bug with the update but.... volvo pls fix.

Having similar issue. Have two computers in same home with two different valve accounts and two different copies of TF2. NEVER had issues before but not able to login tonight. One of us can connect to a server, but the other one can't. Whoever is logged into multiplayer and playing, the other person then gets the "FAILED TO CONNECT" message to any other multiplayer server. Both have tried reboots and logout/logins, and able to play other steam games like left 4 dead. So appears to be just TF2 affected.

ive got it! what we did is i went to library, right-clicked tf2, propertys, then set launch options and i put in +clientport 27006-27014, this changes the port range just do it on one of the computers.

So thankful this works you helped a lot of people with this quick fix!

thanks Ratt. That change to one computer fixed the issue.
I tried this trick, doesn't work, I still have the message "connexion f**ing failed after four retries"... Maybe it is because of one of the last updates? I didn't have this problem until today...

Max, did you use a + and not a - on +clientport. I found that using -clientport gets ignored.

I suddenly started having this problem today (my son and I can't connect to the same server) and setting this in my startup settings fixed the problem.

Could you give me the file location of the tf2 you are referring to, in the form of something like this: Steam/steamapps/common/Team Fortress 2
