Is TF2 a M.O.B.A.?
It fits the Muiltplayer-Online-Battle-Arena name but it's an FPS game. Is it an MOBA-FPS or is it just an FPS?

TF2 isn't a real-time strategy game. So it's not a MOBA.
TF2 is very strategic, just all these W+M1 pyros and new players have no idea what they are doing making it look like a new years eve parade.
so chess is a moba?

TF2 has some strategic elements in terms of teamwork tactics. It is still not a strategy game.

i get that but what OP is asking is if TF2 is a MOBA and while many MOBAs are "strategy" games its not like people play strategic the entire time i get why people dont call it a MOBA and honestly i wouldnt either but it fits if someone where to explain it

I'm sure someone who has actually played DOTA can explain it better than I can, but TF2 is way different just because it's a FPS and the only tactics you make are team-based. There are no resources, no leveling up, and at best you only have a control point to protect, not an entire base.

The closest thing to a MOBA that TF2 has might be MvM, but that's one-way and is more tower-defense focused than anything.

Maybe, I have no idea. But since it's Valve's sole MOBA game, that's the example I went with.

FPS games are moreso a solo-player experience. You get rewarded much more heavily for individual skill when playing most FPS games than you do with mobas because everyone generally has the same tools. If you take a team of people with all the same equipment, they can all do the same damage output, it's just a matter of accuracy and game knowledge. Meanwhile, in a MOBA game, everyone has different tools for the most part because every one is playing a different character.

In FPS the power of the team is defined by its BEST player, in a MOBA the strength of the team has just as much to do with its WORST player. "Feeding" in an FPS isn't a thing, there's no way to screw your team over that way. You can give up kills in a TDM format, sure, but there's no slippery slope. By that I mean that in LoL getting one kill makes it more likely you will get more kills etc. because you get more gold. In a TDM FPS you may get points, but that doesn't mean you're more likely to get more points just because you already have points.

MOBAs have a lot more game knowledge that is specific to the title, so less skill transfers. A great CoD player will be a great BF player and a great CS player. It may not transfer as well to something like Tribes, but it's nothing like the learning curve from switching to DotA to LoL etc. That means that building FPS skill feels less like a waste of time, because unless they stop making an entire genre of game those skills will be relevant the rest of my life.
