replacing crucial game files = VACations.
The sound files are in tf2_misc_sound_dir.vpk. To open it you need GCFScape.
There is program called vpk.exe in tf2 bin folder, but firstly you need to know the filename and address of that sound you want to custom it.
The address of sounds for class select in vpk:
sound/music/
Files are starting with class_menu
the only way you'll get banned is for tampering with the executable or dynamic link libraries which is usually how the cheats roll by injecting their funny code into game
replacing stuff will usually result in the game not starting up, server rejecting you or just sv_pure doing its job.
a custom vpk wont be necessary, just make a folder in custom, call it whatever you want, drop in the materials and models into that folder and launch the game. i even tried this myself right now and it worked
