Team Fortress 2

I found a strange voice line in tf2's files.
I am making closed captions for all of tf2's dialogue, and as I was looking through the voice files I found 2 files named medic1.mp3 and medic2.mp3 and each one of them has an unknown man screaming medic. I don't know if this has been discovered before or when it was added, but I am 99.9 percent certain it wasn't there less than a year ago. For the people who want to listen to it themselves, make sure you have GCFScape and go to

Steam > steamapps > common > Team Fortress 2 > tf

and open up tf2_sound_vo_english_dir.vpk

now scroll all the way down in alphabetical order until you find medic1.mp3 and medic2.mp3

Any thoughts?

Probably a cut line from the game, possible voice actor for one of the beta characters. Valve is probably reusing it for an update, don't know what though, strange how you said it hasn't been there than less than a year a go.

Valve tends to drastically change things during the course of the beta, the one thing that stumps me is that it only appeared less than are year ago from what you're saying, makes no sense why it's there, might be a mistake.

I think there was a different voice actor orignally for medic or he put on an accent to make the character less monotone and more interesting, so maybe like I said, it was probably a cut line that accidentaly resurfaced in the game files.

Isn't it a leftover from the early development? All of the characters sounded the same, like in TFC.

It's basically placeholder voicelines.

Civilian? If not, I don't have any idea.

There are also a few voicelines in the sound_misc vpk inside the Player folder named "crit-death", and they also sound like those generic Medic voicelines.

As far as I know, the medic was always intended to be German, but this voice is American and sounds less 'cartoony' than the other characters.

As far as I have seen, the only lines with this person's voice in it are medic ones. No lines simply titled 'cheer' or 'battlecry' exist for instance, which leads me to believe that it is new.

Well Shallex says he's 99% sure that it only appeared no more than a year ago, so there's not many reasonable explanations for it, besides...

A. It was mistakenly put back into the game files.
B. It was always sitting there people just didn't notice it.

Here are the early Meet The Medic videos/concepts in development you've probably already seen these, notice the voice of the medic. So prototypes or test things generally are barely polished at all, just to test things out, I doubt this is even made in SFM.

So this voice line was most likely a placeholder voice line, as you said.

Actually it sounds quite like what he would sound like if he were screaming. But Meet the Medic was released in 2011, 4 years after the game's release, and by then the Medic of course already had his current voice actor, which can even be heard in that video when he screams. The videos you sent me were just ideas Valve had for Meet the Medic before they settled on the current one, which is why they don't use the actual voice actor.

Well it's the best thing I got right now because I don't want to install the software just to look at three game files. My best bet is that they're mistakenly placed in there.

It was probably for the medic call for the cut Civilian or Commander class.

But the Commander was just supposed to be an invisible overlord, wasn't he?

True... Then it must be for the civilian...
I'm pretty sure it was for team fortress classic.
