If you mean the soul gargoyle that's green and ghostly looking that "appears for you", it can be anywhere everytime it appears. You will see the gargoyle at a specific place for you and only you can see it. Others will see their soul gargoyle at a different place which you also can't see.

I thought it only spawned one gargoyle for everyone in the server to race for that one gargoyle

Nah, all your gargoyles spawn at the same time and disappear at the same time but they're user-specific in location. If you look closely, people can run into the gargoyle you're seeing without picking it up or knowing it's there. Also, if you look around, you can see people seemingly have glowing green pixels around them for a few seconds which indicates they just picked up their gargoyle. :)

Ah ok thanks..Im just glad it's not actually 2000 kills to fully level your gargoyle.i thought it would be like strange ranking

Yeah that would take a long time! If you don't wanna try too hard for the souls you can go on a payload map and just push the cart. Idk about the other maps for the payload event maps with a ghost riding in the cart, you get a steady supply of souls if you're pushing the cart.
