Team Fortress 2
How good is the Vita-Saw?
The Vita-Saw is a Medic melee item that allows you to retain 20% of your charge when you die. However, I literally have never actually seen this being used. (okay that's obviously an exegration) It got me thinking, is this weapon as bad as people think it is? So, it's obviously terrible with the Quick-Fix and the Vaccinator. The ubers on those Mediguns aren't as powerful as say the Stock. But, what about the Stock? A Stock's Ubercharge is the best in the game. While it does has some flaws, getting it up as soon as possible is a top priority. What about a Kritzkreig? It can be useful on the Kritz, as the extra charge rate means you can get it up as soon as possible. The -10 health on the thing isn't that bad, if you think about it. While it certainly doesn't compliment the Blutsauger, -10 is not that much. Besides, you should be out of sight as a Medic (most of the time) and the amount of damage you'd normally take is miniscule making the debuff almost nonexsistant.

TL;DR: This is basically an upgrade to stock. The -10 health is not that big, and certainly won't have you saying 'ACH I DIED BECAUSE THAT ROCKET DID 140 DAMAGE I COULD'VE SURVIVED IF I USED ANOTHER MELEE ZOMG!'. However, there are obviously better options (Ubersaw, Solemn Vow, etc.)
So, if you have this weapon and you're thinking about using it, ask yourself this question:
Is the enemy killing me a lot when I have full uber?
If so, use it.
If this is not true, however, use any other bonesaw.

overpowered, but on pubs you can typically get more use out of the ubersaw since godawful scouts/spies will be feeding you ubers constantly

Can you just list all the weapons you ask about into one thread please? You're kinda flooding the forums with weapon questions.
Uh... Whenever I do play medic I just stick to the norm,

After the gun mettle update it's now useless

I'm not a fan of losing max health. And the Spy's Vow is too good to pass up on as a melee.

How come? Care to shed some light on your thinking?

It promotes dying and 10 hp is a lot to a Medic.
Hmm, I'm pretty sure if you let the ramp up take effect, a trap with 2 sticky bombs could kill him from that point...

You don't really take more shots to kill with -10hp.

Statistically, it is one of the most broken weapons in the game and my Bonesaw of choice. The reason being ; It dosen't retain 20%, it retains 18-19%. Now, I beleive this is caused because instead of retaining 20% of the CURRENT uber, it retains 20% of THE uber. This could save you 6 seconds of healing with the Kritzkrieg or Quick-Fix, 1 Square of healing with the Vaccinator, and 16 seconds of healing with the Medigun. The reason this weapon is considered so strong by some, is because it forces the enemy teams' medic to use it too. Otherwise, you'll just get Uber faster then them (Most of the time ) and steamroll them all. This is the reason it's banned in Competetive gaming as well. Also, it can be insanely good with the Crusaders Crossbow or Blutsauger, the reason being the Crossbow allows you to potshot the enemy from across the map without putting yourself of risk at death, and the Blutsauger will allow you to instantly jump back from a lethal hit easily, if you can aim it well. It also reduces your survivability of being hit head-on by a rocket and surviving at 6 HP to being hit head-on by a rocket and dying anyways. Unless you're a lucky little Medic, you will NOT get away with SIX HP from a Soldier with that good of an aim. They could also just take 1-2 more shots with the Shotgun and completely murder you. So the final verdict? This thing is OP as great scott's hell if used right.

Meanwhile..(Continuing this) The Ubersaw isn't nearly as effective if using the Vitasaw correctly, because with The Ubersaw you're at a MUCH greater melee risk and it gives the Medic an insentive to staple their balls to the wall and get stuff done, meaning they'll have to stick their neck out and fight with that -25% swing speed. Against a coordinated team, or even a team with merely a good pair, this renders the Ubersaw very useless. However, I reccomend using The Ubersaw when not Combat Medicking or playing in Competetive.

I wish I could show how many times I barely survived at or less than 10 hp.

Now (next to finally) we have The Solem Vow. The reason I don't use this, is because it's a Psychological Crutch. With the Solem Vow, you're much more succeptable to surprise attacks and dying because, if you see someone limping off in a direction with low health, you're prioritizing them over what could pose a REAL threat to you ; The enemies with higher Health. It's also less effective due to Random Crits. Seriousely, I have used the Solemn Vow, charging at people that have 10 HP, just to be smacked by a random Crit. It also has -10% swing speed, which may not be noticable out of combat, but in combat WILL decide who lives..or who dies. Plus, it's MUCH more badass to see a Medic whip out a Saw rather then a Bust.

A clever point.
