why the dragons fury sucks.
theres a common misconception that the dragons fury does more damage than stock, and is a strong alternative. however the dragon fury has the same max dps as stock, but requires more aim. this plus the fact that it has a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ airblast makes it almost always a worse option. if they just removed the downsides it would be a stock flamethrower with more consistent dps, but more difficult to aim.

flamethrowers in general just put too much ♥♥♥♥ on your screen.

I think the only thing it's good for is quickly peeking corners and firing it at a sentry gun

but yea other than that... meh

It's sad too... But Flamethrowers are just better/easier to use over all thanks to nearly endless c lips...

the fireball's trail throws my aim off weirdly enough

honestly though, giving it a tiny amount of splash (like a flat cylinder amount instead of a circular radius) would be a bit better

That graph seems to not include the fact that flamethrowers don't deal max damage right from the start because of BM ramp-up (which also likes to reset itself for no reason).
I find the fury to have a good niche as a strike attacker. It's DPS si the same but more focused and quick, you don't have to sit in one spot close to the enemy. It allows you to puff and run and make hit and run attacks in a firefight, pun not intended. So it actually cuts your risk in a full fight without cutting damage, in turn for losing sustained area damage to groups and larger targets like soldiers and heavies.

I would be fine with the horrizontal range being increased a bit but honestly I find it fine as is.

but there is a glitch where the first hit of flame is always max rampup, so if you spray it does pretty good dps.
Enemy projectiles destroy your fireballs (among other bugs). Until that's fixed, it's trash.

and the short circuit projectile balls doesn't nulify dragons fury's fire ball

The Dragon's Fury absolutely does more damage than stock.

This graph assumes that the target was not ignited before hand and it clearly hasn't been updated to account for the flamethrower's damage ramp up mechanic added in Blue Moon.

The actual max DPS of the Dragon's Fury is 225, (2.5 hits for 90 damage each) to the Flamethrower's 173 DPS, after roughly .5 seconds of ramp up of course, so in reality it's more like a 25% higher max DPS.

Then you have to account for ramp-up. With current mechanics Pyro will do about 150 damage in 1 second when accounting for rampup. Meanwhile the Dragon's Fury has hit his fireball 3 times for 210 damage and is halfway through waiting for his next fireball.

If normal flamethrower Pyro misses any one of the 13 damage ticks that occur within that first second of firing, his DPS is cut in half and brought right back to the beginning.

When you're face hugging someone this isn't that noticeable, but when you start to reach the edge of Flamethrower's range, it gets much harder to track every single tick.

Meanwhile the Dragon's Fury will always do the intended damage without ramp-up getting in the way. In fact, the Dragon's Fury unlike the Flamethrower has a unique damage fall off scale where it only loses out on 10% of it's damage at max range, while the Flamethrower loses 50% of it's damage.

This get's more pronounced when you realize that Dragon's Fury has double the range of the flamethrower, at 500 HU vs roughly 250 HU.

In other words, you're doing double the damage nearly twice as far away.

Yes, theoretically if everything is perfect, stock will barely manage to keep up with Dragon's Fury. However, introduce these weapons in a practical demonstration, account for secondaries, ramp-up, and range, you'll quickly see how much more consistent the DF's damage output actually is.
