Why do so many spies use conniver's kunai?

I've never seen the appeal.

Overheal is awesome, but one of 2 things happen. You either survive a rocket and almost all of it will be drained, or nobody hits you and you just walk around their back lines with higher health you'll never make use of in time.

Arguing it's good for trickstabs doesn't make sense because broken hitreg isn't knife dependant. And wouldn't big earner be better for getting behind enemies anyway? Speaking of big earner, don't need a bigger health pool if you don't get hit. (scout taps forehead)

Really, I feel like the downside screws you over more than you can make use of the upside.

It essentially is spy's highest skill weapon. You basically die instantly, but if you do your job well, you gain a massive boost. If youre good at spy, the kunai is perfect.

Because the casual player base is just so bad at the game. At least the bulk of them are.

When you can easily get chainstabs in this game and consistantly over buff your health after every stab it becomes a good weapon in casual. But then again, this also applies to just about every weapon that allows you to benefit off bad players.

When you play better players, it becomes more of a liability instead. Where that low health will get you killed more then the health buff will help you because you need to kill a target before you can reap the benefits of the weapon.

not even comp, in casual control points players tryharder and theres usually better players- i go with big earner or stock

everything else casual i still use big earner and stock (situational)- but in most maps and cases the kunai outshines then all. Cause pub. Also too many players in somewhat chokey areas, its the kind of chaos even the best spies can die randomly (not to mention random crits)- so when youre buffed suddenly you can get right in the middle of the action with some hope of leaving alive.

It isnt just chainstabs- heck for that even the big earner is better.
At the end of the day it is about survivability; thing is with every other knife you have to pick your moments better, theres moment where theres no way to get in, get some kills and out without dying (or not even get in) with all the area damage and chaos...

If i were to shorten the kunais main impact is that- it allows the spy to acts and stabs in places non-kunai spys never would/could proper(not to the same extent)

Kunai is used by all spy mains because they suck at not dying
They also use DR not knowing that stock is even better than DR

Having more hp is always better than having less hp, even if that hp is temporary.
It you can get consistent backstabs you will always have overheal.

Also you said it yourself, "surviving a rocket", a spy normally can't possibly survive soldier unless they surprise him.
With a Kunai buff they can get away even from soldier though.
