Does my game run slower if my computer has a virus?

I recently got a virus on my computer that severly affects my internet speed (includes steam too) and my computer hasn't been the same since. I haven't really noticed any worse performance, but do you think that the virus would affect it?

GET NORTON, i think its free for like 2 months so that can get rid of it.

Just download more RAM

Install Malwarebytes on another computer and put it on a memory stick, then plug that into your computer and run it from the memory stick. Malwarebytes is very good at getting rid of malware, but yhou should also get something like AVG (free) or COMODO.

The thing is, i've done that and I can't find any traces of the virus anywhere. But, my internet speed has been at least 3x slower since. I've used at least 3 antivirus scans, but my computer never goes faster.
