Console commands to reduce lag?

Hello :)

My computer is a few years old now and I occasionally experience lag spikes when playing, which is quite annoying. I've lowered my texture and model details and a bunch of other video settings quite low.

These are some of the commands I have in my autoexec.cfg file that give me slightly better FPS:

mat_phong 0
mat_mipmaptextures 0
r_rimlight 0
cl_ragdoll_fade_time 0
cl_ragdoll_physics_enable 0
cl_ragdoll_forcefade 1
ragdoll_sleepaftertime 0


Can anyone suggest any console commands aside from these that might boost FPS or reduce lag, as well as give a brief explanation of what it does?

r_rimlight 0 kinda ruins your fps go to steam, libary, right click tf2, properties and type -dxlevel 81

I've heard r_rimlight doesn't make a difference when you have mat_phong 0, but then I only have it because a friend put it in his autoexec and said it made a small difference.

-Download chris config
-Open maxframes with notepad++ or OR office word (normal notepad doesnt work for some reason)
-Copy everthing in autoexec
-add mat_dxlevel 81 in the FIRST line of autoexec
-You have almost the max of the frames you can get while still having acceptable graphics

edit
btw is impossible to reduce the actual ping with configs, but this should help. Just remember to tweal the interp and rate values

Also is directX level adjusted through console or through steam?

Just add -dxlevel 81 and launch the game and you'll be in 8.1

(Be sure to remove it after launching as it resets your settings)

Changing lerp or whatever it's called does recude actual ping/lag though. It's set to 100ms by default to help smooth out animations and stuff. Setting it to the lowest possible value will indeed make it so there is less latency. I am not sure about the limit though, it differs from game to game.

Don’t download chris’ config it’s incredibly outdated if you a dx 8 config for older computers get comanglias config
