Is taunts worth buying?

They're fun, I recommend just a few. Mostly All-Class taunts as they're universal in terms of situation and literal (can be used on all class).

For class-specifics, just get whatever you want. Its all preference anyways, and depends on your most use classes.

the only taunt that's worth buying and pretty mandatory to laugh at your adversaries is schadenfreude

others are optional if you have some scraps left sure you can get them too, they aren't worth much imo

They are stupid expensive, but if you REALLY wanna do the funnies with them - go for it.
I bought Shadeunfrede and i'm getting lots of mileage from it.

Yes, they are. The looping ones that don't end until you hit G again allow you to stand there and watch around corners. That's why they're banned in comp.

Only the schadenfreude is worth buying. Almost everything else doesn't qualify as a taunt.

Yes and no. If you're going to buy one, buy one you actually want to use in-game and not because "it looks cool." I've made that mistake before.
