Is teamwork.tf really a trustworthy source?
I am not arguing that the stats on their aren't possible, but why are people trusting a site that doesn't tell you how they get their statistics? Like I find it weird how they give no proof that their stats are real and don't even include anything about it in their FAQ. Please post information on why it's trustworthy. I want to know.

it literally does tell how they get the information from, player reports from gameservers. https://teamwork.tf/community/statistics, literally read the first thing you see when you enter the page

teamwork.tf is generally a trutworthy website

they probably have a program that scans each individual server for players and gets the demographic details from there.
it isn't like that's some new technology. mastercomms did this not too long ago to estimate how many bots there were using what i can only assume to be a similar method

as for why you should trust it, i can't convince you. if you believe it don't then so be it. i choose to trust it because i don't see what they'd gain from lying, and also the way in which they collect information isn't anything extraordinary.

ultimately, nothing will truly convince you unless you personally see the process in which they collect information or have one of the developers explain it to you, so I can only refer you to their discord group where you can probably ask someone involved with the project yourself

Anyone can poll steam and get a list of steam ids etc. I don't fully understand what the problem is. You don't trust them, okay, what else? If it's a privacy concern, it's too late.

I ran into a future NSA agent the other day who was making their own databiss of cheaters/probable cheaters through probably similar functions that teamworktf gets its stats from. That dude had like... 15k people in their databiss after 3 hours of polling. From there it was a matter of creating a network between steam ids and their mutual friends, vac bans, game bans, etc to create a repository of known cheaters, cheater sympathizers, and so on. Like dude out of nowhere just says to a teammate "you should remove so and so from your friends list, they're in my databiss meaning you're in my databiss." He explained everything but I was only half listening.

This.
But still, .tf is the most foul of them all.
It seems like it's every week someone shows up and is like "Hey guys, so I saw that Teamwork directly states where they get their stats from. How can you trust them when they don't tell you where they get their stats from?".

You can literally open the server list and count up the players on every single server, and as long as you actually loaded every server it'll be the same number as teamwork.tf.

This, exactly. It has been proven many, many different ways that this data lines up perfectly with what we know (and at this point, we know plenty) - yet this poor site keeps getting doubted as if these numbers were pulled from some mysterious backdoor that can't be verified.

I don't doubt that the community server numbers are accurate. I just find it odd how they don't say how they get casual stats.

The same exact way they get community server stats?

The real number is slightly higher because there's no way to know how many people are in queue. But beside that, it pretty much line up with my own experience. If there was 100k players playing, I wouldn't run into the same people all the time.

Most people queue while already in a match and even if they're in queue they aren't playing so they shouldn't be counted. Plus, there's no way the amount of people in queue even matches the amount of bots & idlers. The number is smaller, not larger.
