why do the mann co supply crate keys still hold value?

the last mann co supply crate series drop was about a decade ago and they have since been replaced with cases that have their own respective keys

so i was wondering if people still buy the keys for the intention of unboxing older crates or as a means of currency

Crates still exist after all. It's gonna take a while until they serve no purpose, at which point they become useless, and maybe diminish in value, although that's unlikely.

Even then, a key is still a key. People have established that they are all worth the same, and as long as they agree on that, they will continue to be.
