Team Fortress 2
Spy is REALLY fun, actually
Good day everyone!

First off, I'd like to state that despite it being april 1st currently, this is a serious post that I just decided to do today because I was too lazy to make it earlier.

Anyway, recently, I've tried picking up spy again when playing TF2. That was mostly due to getting spy videos in my youtube recommendations.

I did like to play spy once in a while before, but I was never good at it, and putting aside the very rare high moments, it was mostly a very slow and inefficient process.

Why? Well, simply because I had the very typical "beginner passive braindead spy" behavior, aka either camping with the cloak and dagger for 5 minutes until I can backstab a poor hardscoping lone sniper, or just disguise as a pyro and run straight at the enemy team from my spawn and then wonder why I died.

And so, I decided to get into it for real. Try to play smart and less passively.

New loadout : L'étranger, stock invis watch and Your eternal reward. (and red tape recorder because I like the sound it makes and the psychological torture it is for engineers)

That and try to use less obvious disguises, and actually try acting as whoever I'm disguised as to fool the enemy team.

And... It was pretty much an instant success, and I haven't had as much fun playing TF2 in a really long time, and I'm very often on top of the scoreboard. (probably because a backstab kill is worth 2 points but shush)

Turns out, contrary to what I often read on the internet, disguises do work very well and are extremely powerful, so long as they're used in a credible manner. That, paired with the YER's silent kills and instant identity theft can really put the spy in a position where he's considered "already checked and safe" by the enemy team, which then lets me go for a 6+ chainstab without anyone turning around. Since I've started playing like that, I've even managed to be quick and sneaky enough to get enemy medics to uber me multiple times.

Of course, there are times when it just doesn't work. Either when the enemy team gets too paranoid, when I get tunnel vision or simply when I get screwed over by tf2's melee hitreg and end up failstabbing right in front of a sentry.

But even then, I don't think spy is underpowered without abusing trickstabs or the dead ringer/kunai combo (that I really hate using outside of MVM). All I needed was to play smart with the disguises, stop being passive and remember that I can gun down the hard-scopped lone razorback snipers before they can react.

And of course, I know I shouldn't insist on playing spy when the team already has 2+. Knowing when not to play spy or when to switch to another class is important too.

So yeah, spy is really fun and powerful.

"One of the most popular classes that is in fact so popular it often ruins the game as half the team goes spy and gets a combined 0 kills is fun"
Also water is wet

I have a 57/1282 K/D ratio actually. That's more than 20%.
