Why can Spy see enemy health?
It’s useful, but I’m wondering as to why it was added to the class and what makes it fundamental to him that no other class could have it by default.

Spy already has an instakill mechanic so I’m not seeing eye-to-eye. Help.

Communications. A good spy can alert teammates of low health enemies and have them push.

As once said, a spy has fancy gadgets ;>
it helps him be useful beyond MAYBE getting one stab off and dying instantly, if you see someone with low health you can whip out your revolver and finish them off
It probably goes along with the concept of spies in movies and novels. Where one big piece of their role is to gather information that can be used against the people they're spying on. Espionage in other words.

In this sense, he's able to relay information to his team ( or use it to his advantage to gun down wounded targets ) as well as give a medic's charge percentage.

I forget if spies could do this in QWTF and TFC. Well, not ubercharge, since that mechanic was introduced in TF2, but being able to see enemies health.

In higher up play, if you can't get any good picks though, being able to tell your team who to target is a huge benefit though, as well as uber charge %. To the point you may just focus on keeping tabs on your enemy and reporting it more then anything else. Consider it very high reward, with very low effort, since you can do it while invisible.

Because he spies their health, no? Useful to know who to gun down instead of having to approach for backstab, too.
(Telling teammates is an option too, but mostly if spy can't take care of those lowhps by himself.)

He spies with his little eye

True compositions are aware of any players health in the match, of enemies and their own. It isn’t a powerful mechanic, perhaps for casual

The inherent nature of the class is why he has that perk, which, is seldom useful since Spies would rather handle the matter themselves and not all teams you get are eager enough

Medic with Solemn Vow can see enemy health too only you have it on your medic ofc.

Anyone that plays spy knows that that feature is broken more often than not.

He infiltrates the enemies, so obviously he can see information about them. It's mostly there so he knows when to just shoot at people.

Bad at Spy. Relaying information to your team is practically worthless, just as dying after getting a stab usually is.
Exactly.

It just fits his theme. He's a SPY. You know: the one who collects intelligence on the enemy team. So its very on-brand for him. It also allows him to carefully pick his fights: "oh, that heavy is on 30 HP?" > decloak, blast him with a revolver, back to shadows.
It doesn't come into play very often, but makes you feel like a genius when it does, which is the point of the class.

Interestingly Medic is also capable of this when he equips Solemn Vow, and i swear it used to be a default feature for him...
