Team Fortress 2
Are specific player targeted anti-aim lag cheats a thing now?
I had a rather interesting experience in a game recently, and I'm now wondering if this is either a new variant of cheat or just one that's flown under the radar.
I was playing a game of turbine as sniper, and in the first couple of minutes of the game I was crushing the enemies topscoring sniper, consistently outsniping them. Everything was normal so far. Then, said sniper begins lagging immensely. It is blindingly obvious, and on my screen appears as them literally teleporting around. Likewise their aim magically improves, while trying to hit them while they're obscenely laggy is next to impossible.
Here's the interesting part, I call them out for lag abusing, assuming everyone else can see them teleporting around with the most blatant lag cheats I've ever seen, and everyone else on the server apparently can't see them lagging. When I ask my team, no one else can see the sniper lagging.
I check my network health through the console network graph and verify that I am not dropping any packets whatsoever, and my network connection is entirely stable throughout. My config is the exact same that I've been using for the past several thousand hours I've been playing tf2. Additionally, every single other player on the server, besides the cheating sniper, appears completely normal.
Then, I get autobalanced, and wouldn't you know it, the split second that I'm not on the opposing team the enemy sniper appears completely normal again. No lag whatsoever.
Based off this experience, It seems that the cheating sniper I went against had some sort of lag based anti-aim cheat that could be applied against a specific player on the enemy team while not being visible to anyone else on the server. I'm curious if anyone else has had any experience going against players using these kinds of cheats, and if they have any ideas on the mechanisms for how an anti aim visible to only the targeted player could function.

All randoms.

I’ve heard of fake angles, serverside hitboxes that are used, or manipulated, unsure but it seems it could. Cheaters use the term anti-aim when fighting other cheaters, in this case it seems it is a cheat, a manipulation on their end
