Team Fortress 2
Matador Stab
I been trying to learn that for a few days now and it's not going so great. I did look up tutorials but those didn't help either.. So I was wondering if someone would be willing to be my teacher (Add Me) and teach me in-game, or if you think you could explain it go right ahead.

3/28/2018 Edit: There is no need to revive this discussion as this post is four years old.

The Matador stab: This is an advanced Spy technique and a difficult one to master. To perform it, you must be facing a single enemy, who is facing you. Either run towards him or let him approach you, then, just before he is in melee reach, strafe in one direction (left or right) for a split second, before quickly changing direction and strafing to the opposite side. This will reveal the enemy's back for a very short moment as he follows your first strafe, and you should stab him promptly during this brief gap. This is useful for those players that dismiss Spies and try to melee them, such as some Scout players. Should this technique fail, and you miss the stab, you will be extremely vulnerable in close-range and will almost certainly die, but when performed correctly, this technique enables you to stab an enemy in a potentially fatal situation. Great for Dead Ringer Spies. Not recommended to try this on Pyros; the technique might still work, but unless the Pyro wants to melee you, you will probably be set alight and dealt a fair share of damage. Once you get more confident with this stab, it becomes perfect for Pyros who try and come at you with their Axtinguisher. One quick side-step and you should have them. - http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Backstab#Backstabbing_techniques

It's basically where you make a quick feint to one-side to bait the enemy into turning and then quickly move to the other for a very quick knife in their hip.

@OP - if you want to figure this out - go on TR walkway and practice side-stabs on the bots to get an idea of the minimum backstab angle; once you've got that it's just a question of a quick tap of the A key and then instantly hit D and as soon as you get the narrow window of opportunity, knife them and they die.

"Trick stabs" are what bad spies invented because they cannot get proper backstabs. If you want to be a good spy, just sneak behind your enemy.

It's more of a way to get out of a sticky situation, but some people do it to just show off.

Not certain I follow you on this. If someone is able to consistently out maneuver their enemies in a close quarters combat situation where normally they would not how does that chock them up to being "bad spies".

The whole point of being a spy is not just being undetected. Spies also play mind games, cast illusions, mislead their enemies and other techniques to control an engagement.

Trickstabs are used by advanced spies. Not as their main combat tool but as one tool amongst a large arsenal of tactics.

One problem with matador stab is that once enemy knows about it, it is going to be task near impossible to succesfully make one to happen. Keep yourself out of melee range and do not cut corners and be vary or inclines/props = trickstabs avoided.

so basically matador stabs only work once, after that the enemy will know and keep their distance, but still i think the op just wanted someone to teach him how.

It's a desperation move for spies who are bad at stealth. Don't spend too much time on it.
