TF2 chokes internet speed
I started having an issue 4 days ago where upon launching any Valve game (TF2, GMod, etc), my internet speed will drop from its regular speed (~87 Mbps) down to ~0.5Mbps, which makes joining servers and talking with people on Discord very difficult. This was not a problem just a few days ago.

The weird thing is, my internet slows down like this upon simply launching the game, so the problems start on the main menu before i even join a game. Also, I've tested a few other games to see if it's just Steam in general; I played some online on Halo: MCC and my internet speed was unaffected. This is very bizarre.

I tried messing around in Steam settings with the bandwidth limit, server ping rate, clearing download cache and even changed my server location to no avail. I also made sure to kill any processes on my computer that could be causing a slow down.

i contacted my ISP and they said they see no issues from their end, and Steam support advised me to reset my firewall settings and scan my device for malware, neither of which helped. There is no way that it is a router issue either since I use ethernet.

This really sucks and it seems like this problem will continue indefinitely. If anyone else has had this problem before i would really appreciate the help!

I've had problems with spikes and general lag since they fixed the lag bot thing. TF2 is a badly optimized game as it is, the issues we're having is on server side as like you, other games are unaffected. If you do any trading you'll notice just how often the game coordinator goes down
How is your FPS doing in-game?

No changes from my normal framerate. Just slow connection.
Oof, I was hopeing there was an issue there cause I found a solution to that. There was this guide that may help, but I don't really know any other way to help. But look around the steam tf2 guides, find a guide that seems reputable and one that may at least address the issue of your problem. Anyway I am going to leave this guide here to see if it helps, even though It doesn't address the problem. Good luck.

I followed your guide and it actually seems to have fixed my problem! That's very weird since this wasn't a problem just a week ago. Thank you for the help!

Wow it did? I never thought it would help, though I am glad to know that at least I helped someone, even though I am not a tech wizard.

P.S- be sure to mark the 4th post with the guide as the answer as in case if someone has a similar issue like you did. It may work for them as it worked for you...

Unfortunately this seems to have only fixed the problem for 24 hours. After trying again today, it is back to choking my internet. I have checked my device manager settings and the thing i changed from the guide is still how its supposded to be. I tried switching it back and forth to no avail. Any other ideas?
