64-bit Beta macOS support
Hello,

Now that there is a 64-bit version of Team Fortress 2, there is hope that it can run on Macs once again.

Though I do have a gaming PC, I use macOS daily because that is where my emacs configuration is. I would like to play Team Fortress 2 on the computer I always have with me.

I have tried downloading the 64-bit beta, but when I launch it a modal window pops up from Steam stating that it cant find "hl2_osx."

I downloaded the regular 32-bit version, and when I do that it puts a "hl2_osx" executable in the directory, but when I switch back to the beta it disappears.

I have tried using the 32-bit executable to launch 64-bit TF2, but Steam has another modal window that states that 32-bit applications are no longer supported.

Anyone have any luck on getting TF2 to run on macOS with the 64-bit beta?

Though that is correct, Rosetta 2 does a good job translating x86 into arm instructions.
The x64 bit is on Beta.
There is no sign that VALVe will make a new port, compatible with MacOS.
For now only thing you can do is just hoping.

That might actually work properly now that tf2 is getting a 64bit version

Counter-Strike 2 doesn't even have a Mac version, idk why you expect Valve to put money for that for TF2 when they didn't for their biggest cashcow.

Counter Strike 2 uses Source 2, which uses Vulkan or DirectX as the rendering backend. These two rendering backends are not natively supported in macOS and require a considerable amount of work to work correctly-- since some Vulkan extensions will never be supported with MoltenVK.
Considering Team Fortress 2 Source 1, which uses OpenGL (less than 4.1), it will work right out of the box with macOS (and Linux).

I get why Apple went to arm but man, having legacy software must suck

I didn't even know Rosetta was a thing before reading this post

Don’t count on it.

Valve is planning on dropping MacOS support from Steam entirely. They don’t even have a Mac in their offices, and the Mac port of Steam is maintained by a handful of contractors.

A number of which have not had their contracts renewed.

Off-topic.
But thanks anyway.

What update? It’s a beta. And Mac support is never coming back.
