Though that is correct, Rosetta 2 does a good job translating x86 into arm instructions.
There is no sign that VALVe will make a new port, compatible with MacOS.
For now only thing you can do is just hoping.
Considering Team Fortress 2 Source 1, which uses OpenGL (less than 4.1), it will work right out of the box with macOS (and Linux).

Valve is planning on dropping MacOS support from Steam entirely. They don’t even have a Mac in their offices, and the Mac port of Steam is maintained by a handful of contractors.
A number of which have not had their contracts renewed.
But thanks anyway.
