PSA: Particle Mayhem 2 Phishing Scam

Some rando added me asking me to vote for his project on Particle Mayhem 2, asking me if I was "into 3d design" and telling me that he was "proud of his work and wanted to show it to people". The link was different than the legitimate link on TF2's website. They were pretending some guy named Pr0p3r's submission to the contest was his own. Evidently it's an API scam according to Pr0p3r (per his twitter, @Pr0p3r_). Stay safe out there gamers

honestly these are getting so much more elaborate lol. ill be honest i didnt realize it was a scam until he started sending me a link and offering keys and weird stuff like that. normally i love messing with scammers but i was too depressed.... i genuinely thought it was just someone passionate about TF2.... i love tf2..... i said "if i kill myself im putting you in my suicide note"

i guess i mean it was obvious after the link but i can imagine people falling for it, these are getting so intricate now I wouldnt call someone dumb for falling for it, this comment just seems bitter. maybe YOU are a scammer....

Yup, happened to me. Instantly sketchy so I looked up the actual competition and saw it ended a while ago. Be sure to do background checks on any randos that add you, smart thing to do.
