The spy is the impostor from among us (theory)
Spy can change his apearence just like the impostor from among us, and also the impostor from among us uses a knife and a gun for killing people, just like the spy.

Here is my theory:
The crewmates discovered the spy being an impostor and they decided to kick him out of the ship, after the fall the spy discovered the humans and he transformed into one of them with his powers, and then he got hired as a mercenary.

I always thought a spy with the eternal reward was more like The Thing. Have to use a flamethrower to test both of them.
