As for the advanced options menu, check again. Also, TF2 is buggy, and while I have not heard anything of that option being busted I would not be surprised if it was.
Turned your mic off how? That could be a hardware failure or your computer switching to a different mic (perhaps an integrated one)
It's also possible your hardware "mute" is not a mute and is instead a button to pipe your computer's audio through your mic channel. In which case congrats, you have the same problem I had for three years without noticing!
If you're using a laptop and it has a built-in camera, you can also try disabling it through the 'advanced settings' in your computer's BIOS (it should be labelled as "camera/webcam" or something of the sort). If you're not sure how to access your computer's BIOS, try searching up your 'laptop/monitor brand name' + "how to access BIOS".
Just be aware that this second method will permanently disable your microphone and camera until you re-enable it again through the BIOS settings which will require you to restart the computer to re-activate it.
