How to turn voice chat off completely or I'm going insane again?
Hi so this is going to sound really stupid but I think people can still hear me in-game even though I have voice_enable 0 set, the enable voice chat option is turned off in advanced options, and I don't even have the mic on my computer turned on. I was on a 100 player server earlier tonight and I noticed as the night went on that people on the server were starting to get annoyed about something I couldn't figure out. I eventually came to the conclusion that when I was there, I had my PC set to max volume while I listened to old Internet music on my Spotify while I played, and people were complaining about it and muting a bunch of people during my last match on the server. The only problem is like I said before, I didn't have any voice communication whatsoever turned on. So I don't know what happened, maybe someone does. Or maybe I've been going crazy like I have been for the last 1.5 years I don't know.

For the record, I joined your server; your microphone wasn't activated, which is a good start. If you want to make sure that the microphone is properly turned off on your Windows system, you can disable it through 'Device Manager'. It should be found under audio, and if not, try disabling any cameras if you have them because they might be what is projecting the audio through the game servers.

If you're using a laptop and it has a built-in camera, you can also try disabling it through the 'advanced settings' in your computer's BIOS (it should be labelled as "camera/webcam" or something of the sort). If you're not sure how to access your computer's BIOS, try searching up your 'laptop/monitor brand name' + "how to access BIOS".

Just be aware that this second method will permanently disable your microphone and camera until you re-enable it again through the BIOS settings which will require you to restart the computer to re-activate it.

It didn't work. I turned the game on to set it and it was already enabled by default.
This is the third person I've seen who is convinced that people can hear him for some reason even though he disabled voice chat and disabled his mic and unplugged his mic. Are you the same person, or are you guys like friends or something?

the voice_enable convar determines whether or not you receive voice comms. You can still send them even when voice_enable is set to 0.
As for the advanced options menu, check again. Also, TF2 is buggy, and while I have not heard anything of that option being busted I would not be surprised if it was.
Turned your mic off how? That could be a hardware failure or your computer switching to a different mic (perhaps an integrated one)
It's also possible your hardware "mute" is not a mute and is instead a button to pipe your computer's audio through your mic channel. In which case congrats, you have the same problem I had for three years without noticing!

learned something new about voice_enable, advanced options was correct, and I turned my PC's mic off through windows privacy settings (settings>privacy & security>microphone access), does that have to do with the last part?

Is the talking icon showing up in the bottom right?
