Alternatives to TF2?
Overwatch 2 doesn't count.

TF classic could somewhat work. Paladins was a thing years ago (but it's more of OW clone and not sure how good it is).

A miles worse TF2.

Laying on a nice uncrowded beach on a sunny day
Ace of Spades (the Steam version, although the free version was also enjoyable) used to have the same vibe as TF2. It has been horribly mismanaged though with nonsensical balance changes (changing the Rocketeer into the Engineer probably being the most egregious one) and a DLC that wasn't quite received well AFAIK, and now the servers are shut down for good.

TF2 is TF2, there's no perfect clone of TF2 out there that satisfies every little niche the game contains. If you're tired of TF2, perhaps try out some new, different games, maybe a singleplayer romp will do, who knows? It's worth a try for sure!
TFC if you're willing to mod bots into the game, foxbot's what I use!

I would like a TF2 with high modding support.

Left 4 Dead? I’d prefer it offline, but its team mechanic might alleviate something. I’m not sure how its community fairs.

If you're looking for alternatives to Team Fortress 2 (TF2) that aren't Overwatch 2, there are several options available. Here are some popular multiplayer first-person shooter games that offer a similar team-based gameplay experience:

1. Paladins - This free-to-play hero shooter features a diverse cast of characters with unique abilities and weapons. It offers a variety of game modes, including objective-based matches similar to TF2.
2. Rainbow Six Siege - While not as fast-paced as TF2, this tactical first-person shooter emphasizes strategy and teamwork. Players choose from a roster of operators with distinct gadgets and playstyles, and work together to complete objectives or eliminate the enemy team.
3. Valorant - Another tactical first-person shooter, Valorant combines gunplay and character abilities in a competitive environment. Teams take turns attacking and defending sites on a map, trying to plant or defuse a bomb while preventing their opponents from doing the same.
4. Apex Legends - This battle royale game features three-player squads fighting to be the last team standing on a large map. Its movement mechanics and weapon selection may appeal to fans of TF2, and its heroes have unique abilities that add an extra layer of strategy.
5. Call of Duty series - The various entries in the Call of Duty franchise offer a range of multiplayer experiences, from traditional deathmatch to more objective-focused modes. Some installments, like Black Ops III and Infinite Warfare, feature class-based systems that allow players to specialize their loadouts.
6. Battlefield series - Like Call of Duty, the Battlefield games offer a variety of multiplayer modes and settings. However, they tend to focus more on vehicular combat and large-scale battles, which can make them feel quite different from TF2.
7. Quake Champions - This arena shooter harkens back to the classic days of PC gaming, with fast-paced action and twitch reflexes. Its champions each have unique abilities, but the real draw is the skillful use of weapons and movement mechanics.
8. Planetside 2 - This massive online first-person shooter takes place across multiple continents, with hundreds of players battling it out for territory control. It's much slower-paced than TF2, but its scale and scope are unmatched by any other game on this list.
9. Destiny 2 - This sci-fi looter-shooter features both PvE and PvP content, with a wide array of guns and abilities at your disposal. While it lacks the pure simplicity of TF2, it does offer satisfying shooting mechanics and intense firefights.
