Team Fortress 2

Has anyone else enjoyed playing 100% Vanilla TF2 during the item server shutdown?
Tons of people in almost every match I played today complained about the item servers not working and weren't happy being forced to play hard stock TF2 but I thoroughly enjoyed all the matches I played.

Am I in the minority of players that enjoy a hatless, weaponless version of TF2?

Meh. It's okay. But I prefer my Machina, since it's a perfect counter for cheating heavy with medic.

it’s funny
Literally every single server I've played on has had multiple people say they prefer it.

while i really enjoyed huntsman and gun spy (and probably played them the most in the last few months), stock-only tf2 has a lot more charm to it for me
the only thing i think it's missing is the extra taunts, and even then it only needs a fraction of the taunts that are on the market

Maybe it varies across regions lol I played mostly EU servers and a couple Asia ones and there were tons of people moaning at how bad vanilla TF2 was
RIP Gunboats. The item that makes Soldier playable.

The gunboats are great but you can't go wrong with the stock shotgun. Super underrated secondary for solly and pyro

Unfortunately, I do not share the general enthusiasm. Yes, of course, when everyone is running around with ordinary guns, it’s an interesting experience, but what’s not interesting is playing with people who are worse than bots, in 2 hours of the game I had only one game where the teams were more or less equal, and in the rest are all normal players on the opposite team, when my soldiers just jump and shoot at their feet, which ends up with 45 HP right in front of your opponent's nose, the rest are of the same level. But as a medic mein, it's a hard time without a crossbow.

- those spies are hilarious without the dead ringer.
- more hilarious are pistol engineers.
- fat scouts every here and there.
- no more pubstompers with kritz, backup, phlog ...
- goodbye lucksmen.
- soldiers dying from double rocket jumping ... lmfao.
- can't tell f2ps from premiums ... we're all in this together.

people who whined about tf2 with no items didnt got tf2 in 2007

Unironically it’s better than the tf2 we had. No frustrating or dumb unlocks to fight against like the wrangler or the vaccinator, and no more direct upgrade melees or weapons like the tomislav.

Sure I may miss the funboats, big earner, and the original, but honestly I don’t care because every bad thing about this game was removed.

There is also no more awful “”subclasses”” gimping your team or just farming your teammates. There’s also no friendlies as you can’t do those dumb emotes anymore, and honestly everyone seems a lot nicer and funner as we all pretend it’s 2007 again (even though this really isn’t 2007 tf2 lol).

Oh yeah and the removal of cosmetics. Honestly doesn’t bother me because you don’t see them anyways, and even then it’s actually surprisingly great. Compared to current day tf2, it’s like putting on clear glasses when you had them completely foggy for the past years. The match before I was playing against 5 pyros who were using that dumb loadout that changes 80% of your players color and it was jarring to deal with. Now you can tell who is who from a mile away instead of having to decipher colors and cosmetics from a distance. Also tf2 looks more like tf2 without those rainbow unicorn poop colored bonzo the all gnawing reskins and hats.

Sure there are still issues like engineer or heavy stacking, but overall most of the issues I had with the game just disappeared.

This made me realize the at tf2 really is an amazing ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game at its core that has been shat on for the sake of “diversity” when vanilla gameplay is both great and diverse. It’s like a chef who made a perfectly delicious line of pasta, but then decided to add more toppings, sauces, spices, etc to try to appeal to more people while screwing up the flavor of the pasta. Modern tf2 still tastes good, but not as amazing as pure vanilla tf2.
