End of the TF: Source 2 project

Hello @everyone, we have some unfortunate news to share with you.

Today, we received a DMCA takedown from Valve on all our public GitHub repositories and all its forks made by the community.

While we were discussing the project's future internally recently, we already came to the conclusion to stop the development of the project due to the current state of the code being unusable anymore with s&box's recent major engine changes, and that we overall moved on from it.

Sadly, this means this DMCA takedown is the nail in the coffin. We cannot bring it back and we've hit Valve's attention, it seems like they definitely don't want us to use their IP (which is totally fair and legal from them).

The @Project Producer's and @Retr0 are available for any questions you may have and we will try to answer all of them as clearly as we can.

The bot problem cannot be fixed.

All they would have to due is SUE the bot hosts. Stop making excuses for them.

Pretty much all of the software that is used to host bots is open source. Nothing productive would occur trying to sue, as you can't even get an injunction telling them to stop.

yeah same, who are you? also I figured the socials you linked would have mentioned something about the project before posting on steam discussions. Again, would suck if true, awesome project.

They often where posting their progress on their discord server and their official web page, but that page was deleted...

I also thought about that, because as we know, Dota 2 was ported to Source 2, and CS:GO as well, now the only game that needs to be ported is TF2 because tbh, that still one of the most popular games from valve even nowadays and it really needs a engine upgrade, because due to it's limitations even some maps give me some problems. I remember when that smissmas map where there is a candy train used to run at 40fps... when every other map ran at like 200+fps... i mean, c'mon Valve.. is a 2007 game...

They should've spent all their effort and resources in making the game unplayable.

If it wasn't clear with TF2C Valve doesn't like fan projects but they're ok with cheaters with access to the source code.

It's a shame to see a great project end like this..., the main mechanics of the game where nearly completed... If someone is interested to see how much of the game was completed, go and check out their discord server

Damn dawg.. that sucks, especially if valve isn’t intending on adding source 2 themselves, why not let the community do it, they are doing it for free.

Pay them for the update or smth, they could afford that, but companies rarely make sense so ofcourse, why would they..

It's sad to think that one of the games that gaved so much at the beginning to valve is treated like this, like the ugly duck, forgoten and flooded with bots and even poor performance in some cases...

In the last 24 hours, valve has opened the floodgates for AI generated garbage on their platform, and sent a DMCA takedown notice to both TF: Source 2 AND Portal 64, not to mention the item servers have been down for 17 hours now.

Valve allowed those guys in charge of the Half-Life 2 RTX to do an unofficial remaster with the RTX remix and why not this project?... I also thought something like that. Maybe get to an agreement to allow this to be an official upgrade to the game in charge of the community, because i don't even remember when Valve actually did something for TF2 like new maps, cosmetics and all that stuff by themselves, because all the "new" content that barelly the game gets is from the community. And if they aren't interested on working on this game, why not hiring an actual active dev team that is really interested in the game to not let it stay with artificial breathing...
