Team Fortress 2
Particle Effects and sv_pure
Hi everyone, including Valve. With practically all mods now banned on most TF2 servers due to sv_pure, you cannot install simpler particle effects. These mods increased my FPS by ~30, so not having them has hit my performance badly. I was wondering whether Valve could add an in-game option or console command to use a simpler particle effects mod, created by Valve, so that you could use this option on Valve servers.
Is this a good idea, or am I just trying to play TF2 on a toaster?

Unfortunately, Valve isn't going to remove sv_pure restrictions on their servers. These restrictions were put in place to prevent cheating via texture mods, which is not bannable by VAC.

My suggestion? Keep the particle mod installed and play on community servers instead. You can adjust the Quickplay menu's filters to show community servers. Plus, it's the only way you can experience gamemodes such as x10 and Randomizer, both of which are amazing.

Use config to atleast tone down some particle effect if you can.

Try buying new PC. Not laptop 'cause PC can be always upgraded, laptop not. This is best way to improve your gaming.

I know some RAM can be upgraded, but it's far more expensive then Desktop RAM.

Heck, RAM prices have been dropped like hell. You can find a latest Cosair 8GB RAM for about 30-50 bux.
Atleast in Vietnam btw.

I'm not really willing to spend at least £400 on a new PC yet, I was kinda looking for a short-term solution...

Thanks for the reply. What I was thinking of was one single particle mod which Valve would approve and implement into the game as an option for increased FPS, but still ban other cheating mods such as transparent walls.
