Is there a REAL way to not suck at aiming?
I'm making this thread because no matter where i search i always get the same chinese proverb ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ "you heff to train practice makes perfect it does not come instantly" "have you disabled mouse accelration and enabled raw input?" "DONT SHOOT UNTIL YOU ARE SURE TO HIT"

I have 4735+ hours on TF2 (resets there and an alt account), i love the game, all this time i wanted to get better, i still suck ♥♥♥ at aiming which affects my gameplay directly.

I do have disabled mouse acceleration and enabled raw input, i have a 2013 razer deathadder and a razer sphex, i have no FPS problems since i have a good computer, i still suck at aiming.

I don't hold my button down, i don't shoot unless i'm "sure" to hit, but i still miss 90% of my shots, it's so bad that i can't even hit targets standing still most of the time.

MGE did not help, all it did was lower my already low self-esteem.

tr_walkway_rc2 didn't do ♥♥♥♥ either, you learn the patterns of the bots (even though i keep missing) and it's not the same at all.

Disabling viewmodels confuses me most of the time, as spy with ambassador i noticed a slight improvement but it was still bad.

I even suck at aiming with melee.

How bad my aim is

Advice from my friend which is an excellent sniper didn't work (muscle memory)

Advice from internet didn't work, i've been playing since the Sniper Vs Spy Update, i've trained from that point and i still suck, so the "patience is key" thing is getting ridiculous.

Maybe i'm missing something obvious? Maybe i should just uninstall and start training to play super mario bros? Maybe i'm not made for TF2?

I really don't know what to do at this point, it feels like my aim keeps getting worse each day, one of my friends keeps giving me ♥♥♥♥ for "how much i suck", and i don't want to stick to playing pyro with the phlog for the rest of my life, i would be grateful if you managed to help in one way or another with maybe tips that actually work, i would be ready to do anything.

TL;DR: Internet ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tips didn't work i suck at aiming please help, thank you.

(Classes i like but i need to have good aim: Engineer, Spy, Scout, Sniper.)

Ok, so first make sure your sensitivity isn't too high. Technically it's personal preferance but if it's too high you probably won't be able to aim as well as others. Really, the only way to improve your aim is by practicing. Go on tr_walkway and just strafe back and forth while shooting the bots as they go by. Once you can land your shots consistantly, make it harder for yourself. As scout, jump around, or as sniper, try shoting at weird angles. Scout aim usually transfers over to engie aim, and vice versa, so you only need to practice as one.

Quake/UT pros would kick your ass with ball mice back in the day

Angle snapping prevention doesn't magically make your aim 10x better

You literally said what i already said in my post.
I've tried a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of sensitivities, right now i use 1.5 in game and 1800 DPI on my mouse.
tr_walkway did NOT help, along with the fact that the hitboxes in that map are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up.

yeah basically i sucked pretty bad at sniper at one point so badly i wanted to never play it again, and i found my problem was muscle memory and my mouse sensitivity like my people tell you that a certain sensitivity ALWAYS WORKS! but no, sensitivity is preference mess around with it and youl find something trust me once you get it right youl know it and youl be reking heads in notime btw your mouse is a very good mouse.

Maybe you just suck? Not trying to be mean, but some people just aren't good at aiming. Are you good at any other FPS games?

Explanation:

You don't move your mouse to your victim's head- you can even have it one meter to left from him. The key is that in X coordinate(horizontal line) must be the same as the height of his head. Now you just need to strafe right/left depending if victim is on right/left side(if he is to your right step right if left- strafe left) When you crosshair meet his head jus shoot. If he won't be dead he will be hurt quite badly.

you MOVE your crosshair into the target with your movement keys and then fire. although that makes your aim very reliant on movement and you cant really aim against somebody who's a good dodger. so you need to use both mouse and keys

My advice (At least for Scout)? DON'T practice on tr_walkway. Like you said, you eventually learn the patterns of the bots, so when you enter a REAL match, you get stomped because people are unpredictable. So I say, start with the Offline Practice mode. It's still against bots, sure, but it improves your aim a helluva lot. Once you start hitting the bots *almost* every time, head to a basic pub match, where people start getting less predictable. Once you're ppub-stomping, you're ready.

... At least, that's my advice. But hey, what does a s k r u b with only 500 hours know?

oh, try tr_aim
bots there move in such erratic patterns
BushElito Jul 29, 2014 @ 10:15am
I donno.
My aim is good in TF2, but on H&G it is awful.

I'm not sure how to help.
Maybe (re)start practicing aim? Like, play Heavy/soldier at first and then when you feel confident, go play with the other dudes?

no, seriously now. for the engie, use the pomson. I literally shot next to a pyro in koth_harvest the other day. I saw that I missed by a width of a body. It still hit. It always hits.

That is the secret to the combat engie, I may have low hours but I have tried every one of his rifles and pomson is king. now go forth and build, fight and prevail.

Trying out a whole bunch of sensitivities isn't helping you. It may sound overused and everything but before you really do need to just get really damn used to one sensitivity that feels (somewhat) natural to you.

The way your brain knows "he's this angle away from my crosshair, I should move the mouse this far" does not come easily for everyone. Especially when you throw in both your and your target's strafing. But it's a skill, not a genetic trait. There's no easy path to plat with aim, otherwise we'd see so many skilled snipers it wouldn't even be fun to play if you're not one of them.

And the hitboxes in tr_walkway aren't particularly messed up, if your own aim is your problem then tr_walkway hitboxes aren't going to be something you'd notice. Might want to try the console command host_timescale 1.5 on tr_walkway, that let me play scout in competitive in like a day (I was ♥♥♥♥ by competitive standards and didn't retain it but that's because I never did it again).

Also play osu.
