Team Fortress 2
Why is this forum so hostile to GNU/Linux users?
Everytime someone posts about some problem (or just in general) and they happen to be running GNU/Linux, you get bunch of snarky replies from Windows elitists.

Like I get that bots mostly run on GNU/Linux, but they don't represent the legit players that use GNU/Linux. Most (human) cheaters use Windows, so why doesn't Windows get the same reputation? It seems to be a double standard.

If it's not the bots, what it seems to be is Windows users with a superiority complex. What I have to ask is, what is so good about Windows? I mean, I get if you like the operating system but what makes it work defending when someone uses something else?

Because in my experience, the little bit of time I've spent using Windows has been absolutely horrible. In my opinion, Windows is not even close to the user friendliness or user experience of a good user friendly GNU/Linux distro. It's not even like you are forced to touch the terminal on any of these systems nowadays, although I will say that there are some things that are objectively easier to do in the command line than a GUI.

I do get that there is some exclusive software, Microsoft Office and Adobe applications don't exactly work on GNU/Linux and not everyone has the time or is given the freedom to learn a FOSS alternative. But in that case, you are using Windows out of necessity, not out of you actually wanting to use it.

Gaming has gotten to the point where Windows isn't better to a significant enough of a degree for it to be a serious advantage. Proton has gotten really good nowadays. Any game dev that has chosen to keep older versions of anticheat that don't work with Proton despite being given ample time is a ♥♥♥♥ game and ♥♥♥♥ company in my opinion.

If you like those things or are willing to overlook Windows shortcomings, that's fine. No operating system is perfect and I'm willing to admit that. What I don't get is Windows users who act so snobby whenever they see someone using GNU/Linux in these forums. I just don't get what is so great about Windows that would make someone be toxic to anyone who doesn't use it.

call it a hunch but maybe its the vac ban.

im seriously having a hard time believing that these so called windows elitists that you are addressing actually exist. the idea is absurd and so is the rest of the post because quite frankly after a few double takes i still have no idea what the hell youre talking about. i just dont believe you.

Go to General Discussions, search "linux" and click on any recent thread and you'll see what I'm talking about. Self righteous Windows users who think that everyone aught to use Windows, especially when a GNU/Linux user encounters a problem (because Windows never has issues, right? /s) and wants someone to help them with their problem.
okay there are ocassionally people giving helpful responses regarding linux and ill be damned there actually are windows elitists and here I was thinking there couldnt be anything more oxymoronic when windows itself is in such a godawful and irreversibly ♥♥♥♥♥♥ state that i just couldnt fathom there would exist anyone who thinks its even worth fighting on a hill over. the stuff i am seeing here looks like 100% ignorable small-time forum banter and quite frankly these people just dont look like theyre worth addressing in such a big-time post. i do not care at all about operating system warfare and hold no foot in this battle but trust me when i say that windows users as a collective have it way worse than you do by an incredible margin. this post still kind of smells like nothingburger though because youre bringing great amounts of attention to people who are probably better off without it because if you were looking for real authentic advice from this homeless shelter crack den board then you should probably do the more sane thing and ignore these people instead of entertaining their stances and meme arrows.

Yes.

Because we are in the Team Fortress 2 thread.

Here, Linux users are no different from women, non-binaries, furries or weaboos (apologies). IDK how can we find our place in this society if we can barely do that IRL. Although, dumb bodypillow jokes seem to have made it somehow, so I guess we can...

What do you mean finding your place in a society IRL?
Most of us Linux users are just normal people irl so I dunno what you mean.
Like only a small percentage is really that stereotype of being extremely obese, wearing glasses and wearing Linux related T-shirts.

100% is not a "small percentage"

it is a fear of unknown. Most Win users never used anything else and they really have no idea what is different OS like. The curious ones trued it once or twice..
it is most about perception... regular gamers just wanna have fun and not hustle over OS they are running.
Because the perfect OS is the one you are not even knowledge you are running.
So what? You run your OS, hit steam and play the game. If there is a something in between, then it is OS.
Mine is just like that and I love it. It is Linux I and do not care if it is Windows or what.. Does not ask me questions, no pop ups... etc. Just works.

I used to be on win since it released from DOS... but you have to switch for better car if it is there and for free.

I don't want to say 100%, as there will always be weird people who run around with "I Use Arch BTW" shirts and don't even do this as a joke but seriously.

+1
It's all a matter of habbit. I've now been using GNU/Linux for 2 years at this point daily. And at some point, you just stop bothering about everything being new and fancy.
Some people just start their machine and click some buttons to get Windows to do the things they wanna do.
I start my OpenSUSE PC or Debian laptop press some different buttons and it also does exactly what I want it to do.

People claiming that Windows or Linux are unusable just aren't used to either one. I have used windows actively in the past and now actively use Linux, so I don't really care and can use both just fine. I just prefer GNU/Linux.

Some people want to force a ♥♥♥♥ measuring contest on others, only with their operating systems. There's being an Arch user and liking it, and than there's your entire existence being based on the fact that you love Arch Linux.

Like I have encouraged people around me to use GNU/Linux but I don't force it upon them, at least not anymore. I used to be a insufferable GNU/Linux elitist around 2013/2014, but I've mellowed out quite a bit (or at least I think I did) and find people who do stuff like that pretty cringe nowadays.

This is the way, mate.

well we could shame people for anything on their profile is it cool? I suggest you delete this comment because it's just rude, and adds nothing to the topic.

also I love how this toxic community proves op's point right. sigh. :ex1chizuru:
never. Also not because op is using Linux but because op has a vac ban, so you kinda dropped the ball there.
okay but shaming is still shaming and it's not cool,i'd suggest being a little more decent. also the ban is years old atp,who cares

Op shouldn't have cheated in a video game.

Excuse me, what the ♥♥♥♥.
People actively use Konqueror? Why not just use Chromium or Firefox like any sane Linux user? Like there's nothing Konqueror does which Firefox can't.
