No seriously, if you're good enough to enter a championship there's a chance you could win money.

Contrary to popular belief you can still make a profit from TF2 trading, if you couldn't no one would bother building wealth in keys. I used to do a lot of trading but have since retired from it after selling a lot of my more expensive items years ago.
Some easy strategies for making profit include:
-Buying Halloween/Smissmas items out of season and selling them at the projected increased price once the holiday season rolls around (this takes patience but is the most consistent)
-Use BUY ORDERS, you can actually get items for much cheaper from people trying to just quickly sell items and immediately get funds they can use. You can normally only really save anywhere from 10-40 cents doing this but profit is profit especially if all you want is cheap cosmetics or something.
-This might seem like a bit of a grey area, but Marketplace.tf sells keys at a lower price than what they are here on the steam community market, technically you can score an absurd amount of profit doing this but the cash will only be useful to you if you do it on mass which is hard to pull off since keys don't sell like you think in the market. I recommend doing this only if you are trying to get just a bit of a boost to make a larger purchase that you can flip elsewhere for more.
-Find a niche. Find items you can afford to take advantage of it's price increasing or variable pricing. You may notice every once in a while things sell higher than the lowest price, quite often this is from rapid sales taking all the good deals and putting the item at a slightly larger price than normal. If you have a lot of this item and not many are on the market you can wait for this moment to fill up the listings to set a standard price you block out yourself. This is also a bit tough since people will undoubtedly be putting items up slightly cheaper than yours but if you note times players buy this item on mass you can strike while it's hot so to speak. Only do this if you are confident people will start buying that item very soon or else it's price will go down and you will be the guy with the list of items 1 cent pricier than the guy above you.
There's probably more things you can do but generally these are things you should be able to do. Maximize profit when possible by using multiple avenues to sell your items and buy good deals, selling higher where it's worth more, buying less where it's worth less.
Do your research and avoid scams. Lately I've hardly had to spend much money getting items just from selling expensive stranges I had for cheaper war paint variants. You just gotta find your budget and what you really want and crunch some numbers.
If any of my info is off or wrong in some way I hope someone who's been doing modern trading would actually provide good information, I think more people should be aware of how useful trading in TF2 can be.
Everyone needs a job to live, i think having an income goes without saying. OP wants to build money through TF2 tradng and is willingto be patient for it, nothing wrong with wanting a bit of steam wallet income to buy games or items for basically free.
