sniper laser dot
ive been playing sniper for a while now and i recently changed my crosshair and noticed how annoying the sniper dot can sometimes be as it is bigger than my crosshairs... i was wondering if there is any way to remove the laser dot while im scoped in?

No, but you can hide your crosshair and have nothing but the dot if you want

I'm sure there's a mod somewhere that gets rid of it, although whether it'll be compatible with sv_pure1 is another issue.

I highly doubt there's a mod for removing this, considering it's projected onto any wall you aim at, and it's a key point in knowing when other players are aiming at X doorway. Just doesn't seem like there's be a file to alter. Could be wrong, but considering it would remove enemy snipers' too, I just can't see it myself.

Fair enough, I am wrong. Still a bad idea due to removing enemy snipers' dots, but the option exists

This is a much better option. The lazer has more accuracy than the crosshair (especially the dot one).
And the custom mod renoves the enemy sniper's dot too, which will give you great disadvantage.

i know very little of modding, so this may be a dumb question to ask, but is it possible to switch models/sprites on the fly?

in other words, could i theoretically script myself a toggle-option for the dot, or does the game have to be restarted to update which visuals it's supposed to use?

You can't toggle the dot. It's not like a crosshair, it alters the dot's texture (Probably not the right word, but it gets the point across).

yes I realize know that it won't work on casual servers because of sv_pure. It works for me to practice sniping on community server but I shouldn't have been so quick to post something that isn't helpfull.
