First Off, Yes, This Is A Great Combo If Used Correctly. To Start Off, Here's The Normal Way Of Playing This Style:
1. Place A Sentry In A Good, Hard -To-Hit Location.Plant A Dispencer, Teleporter, All That Stuff. This Is Called Playing Passively , And It Helps You Set Up Your Defences And Neccesities.
2. When Your Sentry Gets Enough Kills (About 2-3), Destroy It. Too Many Crits Saved Up, And You Might Die Before You Get To Use Them. Run Into The Battlefield, Take Out Priority Targets Like Medics And Spies, And Then Retreat And Repeat. This Is Called Playing Passive Aggressively .
Hope This Helped
