justifiable behavior considering the outstanding effectiveness of the weapon
But I would agree the loose cannon is the best grenade launcher.
Assuming you land majority double donks it is basically a 1 shot kill to anyone under 150 health. The potential damage output between 4 cannon balls vs 4 grenades is very different.
However because the loose cannon is harder to use against players constantly moving in smart areas it’s not used as much.
The loose cannon is also the best grenade launcher for mobility sit heres that fun aspect.
Here’s an example of that https://twitter.com/i/status/1115311047009812480
Also the physics of the weapon make it travel slower over time, which in addition to the arm time makes it's total range noticeably less than other grenade launchers.
It's better against Scouts but against other Demos and Soldier's I'd say it's worse, since it takes 2 pipes to kill them anyways, which can be done faster and more reliably with other grenade launchers.
The mobility is a nice addition, but costly.
I'd say it's fairly balanced, has some strong area denial capabilities, good against scouts, but not really stronger than stock/iron bomber.
But a demoman can just spam loose cannons on an objective or a choke and destroy anyone.
I would say it’s better than stock because if a soldier tries to bomb you you not only get the knockback but potentially 150 damage in the direct + double donk + fall damage
In a demo vs demo situation where both are constantly landing pipes if it was close - medium range I would agree stock demo would win since he doesn’t have to fuse the grenades, but if the loose cannon demo fires first, or is at a range where they easily double donk they’re almost always gonna win
You can land double donks at any range but the shorter the range, the more time you spend fusing, which compromises total damage output.
True that a loose cannon can lock down a specific area, but from a DM perspective, where your opponents are likely to either move away or towards you, it becomes less powerful.
It has some utility against bombing soldiers, but due to the short range of the weapon a soldier will probably just engage you outside your range, or jump at you horizontally when you are reloading/distracted. He might even be able to just heckle you with his shotgun.
Demo vs Demo is even harder because the other demo can deal 100 damage to you outside your effective range while you can't do anything to them. Even if they get closer to you the fuse time would ruin it, because even if you land a double donk you won't kill him, you have to fire again.
Just because double donks are the most satisfying thing you can have.
