For basic engineer I recommend two loadouts
Southern Hospitality with both stock pistol and shotgun OR the Jag with the stock weapons
Or if you want to go all futuristic the Eureka effect, short circuit and the pomson.
Yep... You get to functionally do more then just baby sit a Sentry all day while your team does everything for you.
Every time you die. Every time a point changes, every time a spawn changes, a sentry goes down, when your team or their team takes a certain corner choke, or the cart reaches a certain point, can all in-effect mean a new roll out situation to which you should go through a mental checklist of '**** I need to do in this case' as the team's engineer.
My best advice for fun? Be more aggro, engie has a freakin' 90 meatshot damage shotgun, he's medium-scout that can build a sentry. And if you're good with hitscan as scout that translates well into engineer.
Other advice, a lvl 1 contributing to a fight, is going to be better than a lvl 3 that isn't. If you're good with hitscan, sometimes it's just better to treat your lvl 1 like a bigger mini. A heavy can go down with 1-2 decent meatshots, if your sentry assists to soften him up and distract him, and they even give you a nice box of ammo for you efforts, that it and some pocket change, will just let you build another lvl 1.
Same goes for teleporters and dispensers, a lvl 1 is better than a lvl none. If you got 200 metal and are running by a 100 metal pick-up, and you haven't built all your buildings, dude just plop down a dispenser or tele exit right there and continue on, there's really little reason not to. If you die, you can upgrade it at spawn, and take it to get back faster than if you hadn't put it down. If it dies well who cares, it was essentially free, and if people get annoyed it's only lvl 1, well they tend to upgrade it themselves.
And try the Jag. You die and your sentry goes down, if your tele is still up, you can make a lvl 1 at the spawn door, run back to the supply closet to get back to 200 metal, and carry it through your tele in a matter of seconds, practically fast as a mini will set up. (you can also do this with minis and just carry it through as well. 2 more back ups worth in metal already on you)
I'm a multi main.
I main Pyro, Soldier, Engineer and demo-man, there are just fun to play.
he just to wants to play engineer and have fun.
