How can I switch to third person mode?

I don't like first person, so I'm trying to switch TF2 to third-person. I can do it on spectator, but when I try to do it in-game, I jump instead! What button do you use to switch perspectives?

Why? I can do it when I'm dead. But Valve was stupid and made the buttons different in the modes for some reason.

anyway bottom line is you can see potential spies or threats you couldn't normally see, also you can see infront of corners.

Oh, and to answer your question, only some servers allow thirdperson usage. Such as: Trade servers, mod servers e.t.c

When a spy is behind another person I can see the spy, but I need third person to see if a spy is behind me.

an aspect of the game is teamwork. you need another member to see spies behind you, like a pyro. it is cheating to do it yourself without looking behind you AKA thirdperson
