Degreaser isn't an ungodly weapon of annihilation, it's what makes Pyro not a joke. The same deal goes for Tide Turner. Stock Flamethrower is...well, stock, but is the 2nd lowest Primary DPS in the game. Backburner is still not a joke, yet kind of a straight upgrade in a sense (I'll go over that in my Backburner Guide, which I may or may not advertise in the forums), and Phlog? REALLY!?!
Degreaser is just better because you shouldn't be running at people holding M1. Tide Turner is kind of the same. Instead of killing multiple groups at once, you focus on Precision CQC Killing, very much like Spy. Turning REALLY helps with that.
Like, Turning is also what makes Demoknight not a joke. He may have been great before, but he's atleast SOMEWHAT viable now. Blame STAR_ or something, I don't know.
As I stated in that other thread, Chargin Targe and Splendid Screen were not REALLY used for their effects. Maybe Splendid Screen because Targe was just meh. Chargin Targe's Resistances ARE good, but Afterburn Immunity is Moot because of how many ways there are to extinguish afterburn (water, medkits, Dispensers, Medics, Sandvich, etc), and Explosive Resistance only applies to two classes. Do you think the Scout really CARES about your explosive resistance?
Splendid Screen is a little more justified, but it's about as gimmicky as Mantreads (In terms of killing people with it, the Knockback Resistance is GODLY, especially with Direct Hit or in Ctf_Bball). Half the time, you want to kill people with your 195 damage sword, and the extra 85 damage is completly unnecessary, but it's there.
Tide Turner just shines above others because...well, it's more utility that makes Demoknight a lot more interesting. I still firmly believe that Charge on Kill should be moved to Claideamh Mor or Wee Booties, but I could live without change. Turning and Recharge on Kill makes Demoknight a lot more fun in a sense. It's different than just running at people blindly and hitting them with a sword. You get to turn and have fun! You can definately see the appeal in it.
So...Tide Turner wins, just because it makes Demoknight more fun and not an utter joke.
Splendid Screen you could use instead. It gives less resist and doesn't make you immune to afterburn, but allows you to deal shield bash damage at any range should you smack into the enemy, unlike the Chargin' Targe's near end shield bash damage. Shield bashes do 70% more damage as a bonus.
Tide Turner shines the most for melee only. as you gain full turning control while charging. Plus, should you get a kill while charging, your charge meter is completely refilled to full, allowing you to charge again immediately. For some dumb reason, Tide Turner gives MORE resist then Splendid Screen, which is outright stupid, they should swap the resists around for the two. If you know how to use Demoknight to his fullest, you can be a unstoppable killing machine. Taken up to eleven if you use Half Zatoichi, which gives full health on kill, has random crits, and instantly kills any other person that is wielding the weapon out.
However, any player that knows how to counter Demoknight you will have trouble dealing with, such as:
Scout: Jump out of the way.
Soldier: Rocket jump away.
Pyro: Airblast you, or try to burn you to death safely.
Demoman: Sticky jump away, or charge away themselfs.
Heavy: Mow you down.
Engi: Sentry or a direct Frontier Justice.
Medic: Uber.
Sniper: Attack you from a safe distance with bodyshots/headshots, or Huntsman.
Spy: DR, they confuse you with watch, or skillful backstab.
Other: Or they just outright kill you and/or make you miss your swings, or they just keep a safe distance from you or somewhere where you can't get to them.
Charge’n’targe: 90
Splendid Screen: 105
Tide Turner: 50
When you know someone's around a corner, just sail around it and one-hit kill whoever it is with your crit sword.
