there's no asian theme in TF, which has its own timless design. wasnt mists of pandaria enough damage alrdy
dont worry these guys prolly have some Arab, Indian or Persian ancestors
Think of the eskimos. they dont even have eskimos in porn! they even have gay midgets in porn, but no eskimo's
now that is sexricism
Besides, the Pyro is obviously Asian. And we're also lacking Native American, real African, Aboriginal, Latino, Mediterranean, Eskimo, and Pacific Islander mercenaries. This fictional organization from the mid-20th century really needs to step up its game in the Affirmative Action department.
There are only 9 classes, this means that there can be only 9 regions the mercs can come from. But I do agree that America is a little overrepresented (Scout, Soldier and Engineer).
The best way to diversify the team even more would be to have the female versions be from different regions as well. Make the female Heavy Dutch. How about a female Scout from Spain (with running of the bulls references)? Jamacian, Canadian, Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, there are tons of other ethnecities that could be done. The only additional American one I'd like to see is a southern belle, like from Georgia or Mississippi (dear Gabe, please no Californian beach bum).
Oh noes there is no Turkish Character in TF2
Oh Noes nobody gives a damn
Regional wise, Heavy is the closest, close is better than nothing.
You BLind?
You got the stereotypical soldier, based off a crazed version of General Patton
You got the most stereotypical street boy Bostonian, with his accent and his job as a fried-chicken delivery boy.
Ironically stereotypical Engineer, with the Texan cowboy accent, quotes, and dances, while also stereotyping more of the engineering industry in Texas (Texas Instrument for example) as opposed to the farming and ranching.
The Demoman is a Scottish stereotype, not a black stereotype. He drinks, he has a thick accent, he wears a beanie hat as if he were a sea-man. He even has an eye-patch.
Spy is a stereotypical spy (like James Bond....or Cody Banks), and Medic is a stereotypical mad doctor. Those are the real only proffession stereotypes as opposed to racial or ethnic stereotypes.
Now, I bring up the Demoman. Notice how he is a Scottish stereotype, rather than an African one? Making an African one would be difficult because he is British, there is no real "African" stereotype for Afro-Brittons, as opposed to African Americans or actual Africans. People laugh at a Scottish stereotype. Scots laugh with it as well. It is politically incorrect though to pull off an African stereotype.
Political Correctness is the key here. As much as I hate it, Valve does not need to become distasteful. For the nature of the game, an Asian HAS to be stereotypical. If he is Japanese, he has to constantly yell about "honor" or something and pronounce the letter "L" as an "R", and be completely suicidal. A Chinese stereotype would basically make him a better Engineer. An Indian stereotype would make him use math-based weapons, be a scawny nerd, and speak in a horrendous accent. I don't know what a Korean stereotype is, but the only people who will laugh at or with a Korean stereotype will be the Japanese.
So no, we don't NEED an Asian character. Is it wrong to have one? No. But since now all the characters have been established, and the theme of the game is racial, ethnic, and professional stereotypes, we stick with white stereotypes because white stereotypes are the least politically incorrect.
And to go to my first point, it's really is a shame that racism actually comes up in your mind. I mean, who else would think at the top of their mind that this game was being racist in a BAD way? It's a rediculous game, and people should really stop caring about it. There are more important places to address racism, like in the REAL WORLD.
Nuff said
I think you're all missing the point that having Americans as a minority on a team of mercenaries operating in New Mexico in 1970 is already rather unrealistic. And good luck finding female mercenaries. This isn't James Bond.
