Any website to download Steam backup files?
I want find a way to download backup files for Steam games outside Steam.

I do not want to download games in Steam itself, since it rapes my internet connection, unlike any other download client

Is there any website of that kind?

My internet is limited to 40 GB per month, after exceeding this volume of data, it falls to 64 Kbps. I use 4G (or LTE). Unfortunately it is not ADSL.
It would be interesting if there was a site to make available all backups to download, so I could download it at university and install them at home.
.
The site could use Steam WebAPI to synchronize the Steam account and only allow downloading games I have.

I'm agree with the topic, me to trying to find people that post a backup game file... NOT THE PIRATE. Some of us have a very low internet speed... and we just want to get someone back up their game, upload it to google drive, post it to blogspot or websites and we the low internet speed guy can just instal no need to wait more than 9 hours to download, it's better just install it through backup than download it right?

what he want is, maybe there is another steam player upload their backup game files to any website, and he planning on download them, rather than he download the games himself on steam, what comes after that is he only restore the files he download....and it is the easiest and faster way to start playing the games....i mean no harm....peace

That's no different than downloading from Steam.

And great necro.

Oh man, would you look at the date of the last post! Good job on that 1 month necro.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to upload paid content onto a file-sharing site. The only way to do it is to download it from Steam. It's legal, and you won't get 13 viruses in the process.

I've been following this topic. So no one wants to upload his/her backup data?
The only place that lets me download humongous data is my office. But my office block steam, so I can't install steam.

This is a valid question and the initial responses are very harsh! I have a dual boot computer; Windows exists solely for those games I want to play that don't have versions for other platforms. I have just bought GTA5 and the download time is many, many HOURS (a couple of DAYS). This means I can only do it while the computer is booted into Windows; I can't get any work done while it's doing it. If I could pull down a backup file, I could do it any time, then install from that when it was complete, instead of having to wait many more days to play my game!

If you mean the original post, then yes, but the most recent reply before mine was on 3rd June this year! It's still the same issue it ever was and is a massive problem to those of us affected by it!

Most of the repliers don't understand the problem.

You can install steam on where-ever you would try to download the backup. Downloading the backup would take approximately the same amount of time as downloading on your main computer directly through steam. And nor should it prevent you from doing other things in the meantime, at worst you need to make due with having to be on windows for a little while which really shouldn't be an issue; you've probably done it before in the past without thinking twice (and if you do decide to switch to linux, it's not like you've lost any download progress either).

Because it was, for the most part, a very niche problem that 99% of users would never encounter and of that 1% that do, most could just deal with it instead of resorting to probably illegal methods of slightly speeding things up (if at all).

Your case seems to be one of the few legitimate issues with it, but everything that could be suggested other than downloading it bit-by-bit at your home would either be straight-up illegal or able to get your fired from your work.

I have just bought GTA5. It is reporting almost 2 days to download. I can't do any work on my computer in the time it's downloading because all of my productivity stuff is in Linux. The real core of the problem is that the download keeps stopping as well, which means even if I leave it to download when I am out, it still doesn't make as much progress as it should. I am switched to Linux already. Windows is for nothing but games now; that is why it is such a pain!

That really seems like an oversight on your part, and issues with your internet, than anything can really be fixed through external backups.

You can, for the record, download it on linux anyway with https://github.com/dotfloat/steam-appmanifest (along with 20 other ways) and then just transfer it over like you were planning on doing anyway.
idk why you jumped ahead to "I need backups, shame on valve for not supporting it" when your issue has already been solved if you googled for that instead.

Thanks for that. I'd had a look but missed this somehow. It still doesn't solve the problem of the terrible, repeated connection drops from Steam's own servers though. Something more akin to torrent would probably serve things better. It'd probably help Steam out in the process if they balanced traffic better anyway. Nice to have an answer that helps instead of some of the straight abuse earlier in the thread. :) I wasn't really demanding backups, just some way to get the downloads in a reliable way, which is where I have the issue with Valve.

i love how this a 4 year old topic yet people still have the same issue. (including me)
