Splendid Screen vs. Tide Turner, which to use?
I just started playing the charging Demoman today, and I have no idea which of the two is better. I'm missing the eyelander, but I'm having loads of fun with the default bottle.

The Splendid Screen has impact damage, and a quicker charging time when you get heads.

The Tide Turner has greater protection, and the charge is fully recharged if you kill someone when your charge is depleted.

Which one is better, and why do you use it?

Splendid screen does not have a quicker charge time. Also tide turner has full turn control.

Go with Tide Turner. Easily an upgrade to the screen.

I don't have one at the moment because sold it for .66 refine while I could. But reason behind my choice is because
1) Slightly better defence
2) Full turn controll
and if that was not enough,
3) On kill during charge, refills charge meter. Meaning you can charge again for another kill or make a quick escape.

Turner also works really well with the zanchi since they both have on kill effects.

The Splendid Screen is easier to get crits consistantly, but the Tide Turner has ridiculous spinning capabilities and, as you said, more protection against damage. Get a feel for both. Or better yet, learn on the Chargin' Targe if you can.

the turner if you want to circle around your enemy or turn corners into unsuspecting victims, or use the screen for it's bash ability.

also, someting to note is that the turner grants crits at the end of the charge, similar to the targe, but the screen grants crits at any point during your charge.

Tide turner... Its ridiculous...
Once you get the hang of it, charge in crit kill, other enemies too far away? charge away around the corner...

Enemies in range, why not charge at them and fill that health up again...

Can quite easily dodge around air blasts with it...

No risk of a spy side steping and giving you a quick stab in the back...

When used with stock gernade launcher can bounce nades around corners and when you know the enemy is close just charge around...

Its just silly how much better it is to the other shields in every way there is no reason to pick another shield over it no

Edit: forgot to mention the whole only critting at the end of the charge means nothing for the tide turner as you can snake your way towards your target to make sure your charge is at its critical point upon impact

Don't listen to this guy, you'll get greater impact damage but the crits are the same to get with any of the shields.

Tide turner is best shield by far, having that movement during charges is way more fun and effective than impact damage or better resistance in a lot of situations
Screen+Caber
Tide Turner + Zatoichi

Turner there is no reason to use Screen or Targe.

depends, if there are no medics, go splendid screen for the easy ammo pickups, might wanna use either the katana for full health, or if you feel lucky, the sword that comes with it.
the tide turner is good for cornered maps like those hard to turn areas in payload or capture the flag. in that case its best to use either the loose cannon or loch and load (to deal with multiple enemies) and the cladamore to extend your chargin time (works really well with snipers the tide turner and cladamore, you can zigg zagg and they will not do ♥♥♥♥)...i guess you could say both are equal match tide turners....

250hp isn't a reason?

plus all the resistances it has, and best of all no afterburn damage

This is a rather common misconception.

All shields can give guaranteed critical hits regardless of distance charged if you swing your melee immediately after bumping into an object.

Splendid Screen only enables you to deal shield bash damage regardless of distance charged, unlike Targe and Tide Turner.

I once saw a demo turn around and charge, and then turned 180 degrees back at me.

Tide turner is awesome.

The Demoman's shields all have different uses. The Chargin' Targe is good for defense against Soldiers, other Demomen, and Pyros. The Splendid Screen is good for damage and is good with the caber and skull cutter. The Tide Turner can be good for escaping if you need to get some health, and is good IF you are able to get kills while charging with it.
