Keyboard randomly stops working while playing
Everytime I play tf2 for awhile, usually over thirty minutes but less than two hours, at some point the keyboard will completely stop working. And by completely stop I mean not a single key does anything in or out of the game, I can't even turn the little num lock light on and off. All I can do is hold down the power button to turn off my computer. The mouse still works when it happens. I'm using a built-in laptop keyboard.

I have reason to believe that this isn't specifically a keyboard problem though and is a freeze of some sort. If I use the mouse to quit or minimize the game while it's happening my entire screen goes black and I get that repeated sound thing while my computer is completely locked up.

Things I have tried so far to fix it:
Updating my graphics drivers
Downgrading my graphics drivers
Checking for updates to my keyboard drivers (there weren't any)
Lowering tf2's graphics settings
Using sv_forcepreload
Moving tf2 to my SSD

Computer specs:
Lenovo Ideapad y700
Windows 10
Intel Core i7 2.6 GHz
16 GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M "rendering adapter"
Intel HD Graphics 530 "display adapter"

Um, yeah. Because I'm not playing tf2 right now... This is a problem that happens while I'm playing tf2, once my computer's been restarted it's fine.

I used to experience this problem with my wired keyboard, but... bah. I don't remember how to fix it...

Solution #1: Turn off V-Sync
Solution #2: Get a wired keyboard

This topic's a bit outdated now. I had already tried using another keyboard and it did not fix the problem. In fact, in doing that I found that my mouse would do the same thing as the keyboard.

I actually did fix my problem though. Forcing tf2 to only use the Intel graphics card and not the Nvidia one fixed it. This was not a keyboard issue.

For anyone else who has this problem: go into the nvidia control panel, go to the program settings tab, select tf2, then under "select the preferred graphics processor for this program" pick integrated graphics.

In the time since I originally made this topic I had the issue on quite a few games, usually steam games, but especially tf2 and gmod. But my above solution of changing my graphics card settings to use the Intel card for these games instead of the Nvidia one fixed it completely.

The post right above yours has the step-by-step instructions on how to do it. You'll want to right click on the "Nvidia GeForce Experience" icon you've got down in your system tray by your clock and go to "Open Nvidia Control Panel". Then follow the rest of the steps I wrote in the above post.

I'm not sure why you wouldn't have the option. I've gotten a new computer since this post was made and I still have the option. If it helps this is what it looks like: https://puu.sh/IXsNw/ad7e18f097.png

download a mastercomfig that is low. apparently the game runs poorly in our gpus, but at lease mastercomfig wont make our pc crash.
