I am new to tf2 how do you text chat?

everytime i try to text chat I get a message that my account can't text chat? But I see people chating when I do Mann vs machine. A guy was tellong me how to play as pyro but I couldn't really thank him as I found out that I can't text chat? How do you unlock this feature?

Buy something from the Mann Co. store and wait a week

To unlock text and voice chat you must become a premium user by buying at least 1 item from the mannco store. Text and voice chat for new players was removed about a year ago because of bots abusing it.

you need to become a premium tf2 player to use voice chat/chat/voice commands.

to become a premium player you need to buy something from in-game mannco store. it can be in game or through tf wiki. it cant be a cosmetic case/war paint case or a crate.
it can be a key(to trade)
a weapon(dont really recommend its the same price as mvm ticket or map stamp)
a map stamp(to support map makers and the world traveler hat)
a cosmetic(dont they are too expensive)
a tour of duty ticket (for MvM or trading).

you can buy it through from ingame store or tf wiki.
buying from tf wiki will give you an extra hat called "mannco online cap" and it will make you also premium.

when you checkout be sure that there is "mannco cap" it is a proof that you are a premium player. if there is no mannco cap then it might be a scam link or you choosed a wrong item.

after you become premium you need to wait for a week to activate the chat feature.

Buy any item from the in-game mannco store. If your steam account is limited, or you don't already have ~$3 in your steam account I suggest buying 2 crate keys and waiting a week of trade them on scrap.tf
