Why are TF2 fans so toxic?

This game has a bunch of funny dances and bright colors. Why would anyone see that and go "Yeah, this is PERFECT for an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ like me."

I just had an argument with an autistic goblin who's mommy allowed him to use the tablet for half an hour before bedtime. On Pinkguy's STFU video. (Obviously, I won because his arguments are trash, most of the time he just liked to timestamps in the video and 2. He stopped responding)

I know EVERY game has toxic community members, it's literally impossible for that to not happen, and believe me I have seen that, but the thing is, TF2 has one of the worst communities ever. It's actually gotten to the point where encountering a nice TF2 player is infinitely more rare than finding a toxic one.

Simply put: It's because the game is free.
Same thing with CS:GO and the like, free games attract toxic people because if they get banned or just want to be an ass with no consequences, they don't have to pay money to make another account and try again. Same explanation for cheaters.

yet most in-game players i have seen in my years w/ tf2 have been silent or neutral even before the f2p censorship, not really toxic. cannot really relate to your frustration.

as for the forums, i have found the average dweller to still be alright enough. they can honestly be not very bright, edgy, perhaps even horny af, but that's childish silliness more than anything. a grown-up mind can cope with that fine imo.
