What is the best pyro loadout?

I would imagine it would be something like:

Degreaser
Shotgun
Axtinguisher

Use the degreaser, airblast up, finish off with the axtinguisher. Use the shotgun for any mid-range attacks or to finish a weak opponent.

But I get in game, and it doesn't work too well. I'm probably just bad at Pyro. I find I do a lot better with

Flamethrower
Flare Gun
Powerjack

With this loadout I do most of my damage at range with the flare gun. I guess this is typically because if I try and get close to the enemy I die within 1-2 seconds of being within flamethrower range.

There's no "best loadout", since each weapon works differently for each player. Some people can use Sniper's rifle with an amazing accuracy, and I can't do a headshot for the life of me, but can use the Huntsman.

I always say that the best loadout is the one formed with weapons that work for you.

I guess you could go Stock, Panic Attack, Powerjack, as it mostly works out the same and gets you a few silly afterburn kills every once in a while

I prefer:
Degreaser
Manmelter
Axtinguisher.

Degreaser is for switch-speed, igniting, projectile reflecting, locking people up, denying demo charge, denying trolldiers, etc.
Ironically i somehow also end up killing people/buildings with it, quite often.

Manmelter takes getting used to, but its utility makes it a very fun and worthwhile weapon.
You can extinguish your team with it and by doing so make your teammate happy, save gas in your flamethrower, and gain a free crit which you can keep until you die or use it.
You can store up to 35 crits in this weapon if the enemy pyros are dumb enough to let you.
I really adore how much gas it saves me and how many crits i can get when pyros on the other team start spamming scorch shot and the like.

Axtinguisher is well known so i don't need to explain it much, it's all about how fast you can pull it out when you get close to an ignited target.
Back in the day when it was "OP" i used to kill people left and right with it non-stop basically.
Presently it's much weaker but still powerful, if you want to be efficient with it you simply must use Degreaser which will minimize the switch speed nerf on the axe.

Shotgun/panic attack (if you want good stable damage do the first, the latter is if you can't aim)
For melee I use one of 4
1: the maul (homewrecker reskin) to help my engineer friends out
2: the third degree. Most pyro mains say this axe is bad, but I digress I've gotten a few kills with it
4: sharpened volcano fragment. This thing is awesome, it lights them on fire and from my experience is the best for fighting scouts and for meming
5: the neon annihilator. It is perfect for most situations, pybro, melee In the water and for fighting that one spy who thought you didn't see them
