What is the purpose of these free item and achievement servers and why do they exist?

So basically I find so many free item and achievement servers that I don't know what is happening. Why do they exist and is it bad to use those kind of servers?

In defense: tf2 would not be as fun without unlocks. Its great that people are able to get 20 or so new weapons and potentially playstyles to try out in their first 5 hours. They will most likely enjoy it alot and continue to play it, and some may have not continued if they werent able to get the items.

Their purpose is for those players who just don't want to face the challenges within the game, and instead go for the easy way of entering a server and getting them all at once.
And then they realize they have no meaning as they didn't put effort into getting them, thus causing them frustration.

As someone who went into an achievement server when i had like 50 hours, i still dont regret it to this day, it kinda helped like "Sims" sayed, i tested the weapons out, found them fun, and just still played with them, most of the weapons i use today are from that server.

They exist to let you cheat your way into achievements in order to obtain items they grant when you achieve them.

Interesting. Also I was just wondering. Do you know if these servers give you random achievements as you join, or can you like manually choose which achievements you want? Never played on one of these servers.

you join the server, type !giveitems or something, and boom you unlocked all achievements that give items, like the milestones one or the free taunt one.
I only went to achievement servers cause I'm lazy and wanted the Halloween Gift Cauldron and the Director's vision.

This is exactly why I have this dream of VALVe adding all unlocks on the contracker so people can actually experiment and have fun
