Team Fortress 2
Tween friendly servers?
Hey all. We've been playing TF2 on the LAN at home and the kids are asking about playing online, but it was pretty ugly content wise when I ducked onto casual servers a couple of times. I know that they'll be exposed to this stuff eventually anyway, but they're still pretty innocent at 11 and 12.

Does anyone know if there are more kid/tween friendly competitive servers out there? They're good kids and not the spamming or screaming types, they just want to have fun and enjoy playing the game.

EDIT: just to clarify- light swearing and some adult content isn't a big deal, the ugliness was more racism, homophobia and bot spamming. So I'm not asking about super kiddie servers, rather those that aren't populated by morons/racists/scammers and can tolerate the occasionally random game strategies that kids can come up with.

Yeah really helpful, thanks guys.

They already play minecraft but the headshots aren't as satisfying.

Alright then kiddies, we'll just stick to LAN gaming for now. Thanks ever so much for the intelligent responses.
Disable text and voice chat and jump into casual

Overwatch is two doors down

Disable text and sprays and you should be fine with any server you pick. most community servers have admins that ban the people you're talking about so try playing on any good servers you see until you find a good one. I personally play on Uncletopia servers since they're not toxic and have normal gamemodes with no rules against capping

There is no racism or whatever other nonsense on the casual servers. There isnt much at all which makes it feel like you're playing with A.I players half the time.

hud_saytext_time 0 in console, disable voice chat and disable sprays in options, this is generally the closest you can get to a kid-friendly experience.

if you're interested in disabling crap
these huds have streamer modes enabled with cl_hud_minmode 1 [or the ingame button on the menu] that hide all player identifiers like names/avatars
https://huds.tf/site/s-Flarepunch
https://huds.tf/site/s-FlawHUD

edit: these don't hide the item inspect panel by default, editing resource\ui\hudinspectpanel.res should be able to hide those too

you could set up an autoexec with these, disabling chat/voice/sprays as well
cl_hud_minmode 1 hud_saytext_time 0 voice_enable 0 cl_playerspraydisable 1

here[mega.nz] is a quick and dirty hackjob mod that removes the flair/photo badge/clan pride and replaces the objector with the crossing guard
seems to work fine on valve servers
i'm not aware of any way to hide just the decals and leave the items intact

with that and the above, that should be every potential for player generated vulgarity hidden, aside from like, drawing ♥♥♥♥♥ in the wall with a minigun or something
throw on some low violence mode and you've got a tf2 suitable for babies with an affinity towards swearing and guns

I'd recommend playing similar games because you'll always have a chance to get laughed at because even bots from training mode can taunt.

As trash said, I think it's a better idea to find a way to block every way of communication with others, so they can go wherever they want and be safe from the dangers you may see in this game

They could play on Creator.tf servers, they have some pretty nice people that play, and most racist / really bad content gets blocked

Uncle Dane has some good servers that are really friendly, but theyre full a lot of the time

basically, if they have a youtuber they like, see if they have any servers, because privately run servers are usually "safe"

let them play minecraft trade servers the trade is just there almost nobody trades there and mostly kids play them
