Team Fortress 2

A look into why FaceIt failed.
So there are multiple reasons Faceit failed. I will now explain them all.

1. People joining for rewards, then leaving when they realized they'd either have to pay for premium or grind like ♥♥♥♥

This is a huge one folks. We have to remember, youtubers were hyping up rewards like "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I got this austrailum professional killstreak double spelled triple spelled personally signed by jesus christ from the catholic religion himself valve medi gun!!!!!!!", causing people to flock to the game hoping to grab one of these. Of course, faceit anticipated this (we need to remember, this ♥♥♥♥ costs money) and made it hard to earn unless you got premium. Of course, this turns off the 12 year old kids and people who cannot afford this ♥♥♥♥, basically around 95% of the new people.

2. Concerns about the anti cheat

Lets be honest, with a playerbase as suspicious as this one, something like this was bound to happen. From it requiring level 0 access, to the privacy policy saying they reserved the right to record your entire desktop whenever they wanted, this was pretty much bound to fail.

3. With a casual playerbase, the comp aspects were not well received at all here

While some comp elements can be enjoyable, the fact that the casual players at the time were used to RC, Random Bullet Spread, and all the other random ♥♥♥♥ in casual, people were not going to react well to the comp like aspects when they were used to their side. Of course, the griefers who think its alright to throw games just so they can be quirky and stuff friendlies hated they couldn't play their way, making them quit as well.

4. Matchmaking sucked, and it was too easy to force people on anticheat.

Of course, the moment someone quit, queue was interrupted, making people upset. Also if you mass reported someone, that was a easy way to force them to install a level 0 anticheat and the client, slowing their pc down by a lot.

Why do you think Faceit failed? Let me know.

I tried faceit before, personally it really didnt feel like casual tf2. Asside from the random crits and spread, you were required to complete the objective. This meant there were no friendlies, f2p’s etc. I feel these aspects make casual tf2 casual.

I think static spark also made a thread similar to this

Fairly certain I made a thread before with this exact premise
First, one I made that was really big
Can't find it, gotta be months old

Lmao they're basically the same thread
I actually wouldn’t mind turing bullet spread off, but I think another reason faceit flopped was because of people like me who were suspicious of having to install 3rd party systems just to play a casual game of team fortress that would keep track of an artificial rank that means nothing to me.

People cried that they were incentivized to win, that's literally the main reason why

One of my biggest gripes when people were talking about the problems with Faceit was when they'd try and give a definition to "Casual TF2" they'd more describe what a game of 2fort or Hightower was more then what casual TF2 was. The implication from that was you weren't playing TF2 casually unless you were playing with a wacky loadout or being friendly or not going after the objective, so people who play to win opinion's and thoughts didn't matter It was more about what the 2fort crowd wanted not what everyone wanted.

I had a feeling it wouldnt work right from the beginning when almost every utuber I am subscribed to put out a paid advertisement video saying how great faceit was going to be. The more of them that sold out to tell me how good it was the more I knew the opposite would be true. People dont need to be told something is good. Good things dont need a hard sell they just are.

I was asked ro install their anti cheat after under-performing as Demoknight once and I never touched the client again.

The anticheat was suspicious as hell so I just wasn’t even gonna touch it

1 reason :
It kept background processes on my computer and there was no option to disable this behavior.
