The TF2 Community's Moral Superiority Complex
Introduction

Now, surely by now, you're eagerly awaiting my explanation for the sin of questioning the well established moral high ground of our beloved community. For which game's community could be better? Overwatch? Nah, the people in it are surely far worse. Fortnite? Nah, just a bunch of raging kids? It would seem to anyone, under the assumption that they're blind and deaf and experienced outside stimuli telling them otherwise the entire time (A member of the TF2 community), that we have an upper hand here. That we out-gg'd them. But as I am about to show, that isn't the case in the slightest. Unfortunately, for the sake of length, I'll have to limit the discussion to just one recent example, but best believe, what I'm about to show will make it 100% obvious that it is generally applicable to almost any happening within the community.

The Example

As we can see from this Twitter screenshot, the team behind the well-known community undertaking known as "Team Fabulous 2 Reanimated" is expressing their excitement, gratitude, satisfaction and pride in the aforementioned community of TF2. They seem ecstatic about the results of the project and seem to attribute it to the general goodness and empathy that the community supposedly possesses, even going as far as calling it "something special", further confirming the amount of pride they take in having been part of this community. This suggests that not only are they happy with what they achieved, but they are happy with what they achieved as a closely-knit community based around a game.

The What Do You Mean

Alright, so by now you're surely confused, everything I've said about the project so far seems positive, so what's the catch? Well, see, all of the reactions they had would have been something positive if it was not for 1 recurring theme:

They're Wrong, & Not In A Good Way

They're wrong? What do you mean they're wrong internet stranger? And more so, what do you mean by in a bad way?

Well, see, the problem with the TF2's community is that not only are they guilty of endlessly parading their moral status, but they haven't even justified what's required to have it. They walk around all puffy and proud of how good they are, circle-stick-shifting amongst each other, tweeting and retweeting it endlessly, showing the world how great and wholesomely compassionate they are, and especially how unique that is to their little haven of love and empathy. Well, see, when that isn't the case in the slightest, I am even more critical of such lack of humility. Now how they're wrong? Well they're wrong in a fundamental way, they wrongly prescribe such values to the community they're in because they want to feel good themselves, a very selfish thing to do, if you ask me. So let's take a look at the claims:

In 81 Days they had:

2 000 000 views
&
23 000 dollars raised for cancer research

If anything, this is really, really sad. Don't get me wrong, I applaud every single person who donated, and I'm not criticizing them. I'm criticizing the community's hypocrisy, constant parading of their "elevated" sense of morals and narcissistic behavior. I'm criticizing how often times the thing they do to help someone is done mostly to help themselves feel better, better then they were before that, or better then others. It's a psychological thing, deeply selfish at it's core.

Do you really mean to tell me you are proud that 5% of SoundSmith's YouTube audience, each donated a dollar? Do you really mean to tell me how happy you are with the community, in which of 2 million people that watched a video project specifically made to raise money for cancer research, that was one of the, if not the most publicized and promoted event in TF2 community's history, only exactly 1 percent of people donated a dollar each? Do you mean to tell me how absolutely over the moon in love you are for the community in which 70 k people play each hour, for 24 hours with certain variations in player numbers due to time zones being a thing, donated 1 dollar each to a total amount of 23 k in 81 days, or 1944 hours?

The Conclusion

Not only is the TF2 community very self-deluded and narcissistic, self-centered and selfish, but in doing so it is also minimally benign.
