TF2C runs better than normal TF2, because it doesn't have all those hats and effects
You can use minimal viewmodels in TF2C (advanced options)
I play TF2C with a custom hud and it works perfectly lol
Even a server with a triplicated player ammount should run good
Must be a you problem...
TF2 Classic allows for custom huds, place your mods in steamapps\sourcemods\tf2classic\custom, I also recommend you go to TF2 Classic's Gamebanana page and look for HUDs there, theres a few of them, its kindof a limited choice there and I don't really know where you can find more, but I'm sure you'll find something you'll like. TF2 Classic also allows for minimized viewmodels, type in the developer console (after you've enabled it in the options) "tf_use_min_viewmodels 1". I don't know about low quality config files, I usually put everything at max cause I have a beefy computer that can run most games pretty well, but they probably work. "and the file is too big." What? What does that have to do with CFG files???
Reading a post you made later clears up the "and the file is too big" issue you have with the game. The main issue I had with Open Fortress was the fact that every time an update was pushed, the SVN would go down, the fact TF2C's downloads don't go down every few days/hours is great in my opinion! if you're saying the Mega link to download the mod didn't work, that's common. Go to the TF2C Discord server and go in "#download-mirrors", there you will find many links to mirrors of the download that don't stop downloading once you hit the limit that Mega has.
If you're saying the extract times with 7Zip are slow, sorry, can't help you there, that's an issue with the speed of your hard-drive. This is something you cannot change without getting a brand new hard-drive put into your computer. I think your issues with the game are invalid and are easily fixed up to your liking.

I believe this was a 64 player match right here that I was taking part in. No frame drops and super smooth gaming the entire time it was...
Again, I believe this is a you problem, not a problem with the game itself..
dunno why you'd recommend tfc tho. title and a few reminiscent bits of content mean jack about how a game plays.
