Read this before you ask why you cant chat in TF2

the reason you cant chat is because valve made F2P players unable to chat. you can still chat in community servers though. if you have spent 5 dollars then you can chat. this is to prevent spam from bots.

edit: it's been confirmed that paying is the only way to chat, unfortunately. kinda makes tf2 pay to play.

edit 2: You cannot use gift cards either, which really sucks since some people don't want to use a credit card or they got the gift card from a friend. really hope valve sees this post and may change this, but it's very unlikely.

It takes maybe a week to get Text&Voice chat access on Valve Servers after meeting requirements.

Requirements that we know about for access to Text and Voice chat in Valve Servers:

Your TF2 Account needs Premium Status,
Your steam account can't be Limited.

You need to buy atleast 1 item from Mann.Co in-game store to get TF2 Premium.
(TF2 Steam Market listings found in in-game MannCo store don't count.)

How to remove "Limited" status from your Steam Account:

Each Steam purchase total will be tracked in USD. If your Steam store's currency isn't in USD, it will be tracked and converted to USD automatically using daily exchange rates.

Yeah but guess what its been avoided already plus not being able to chat as a bot gives the bot more privilege by that I mean the bot is much more unnoticed PLUS F2PS (a large majority of TF2) can no longer chat so basically its like this; A large majority can no longer chat yet bots become more unnoticed by players. Also thanks for letting people who didn't know beforehand.

If a bot wanted to go unnoticed they could just not chat

I'm not agasint this idea in practice, but it's kiinda a ♥♥♥♥ move to do this, valve clearly doesn't know what to do so they are providing bandaid solultions to a deep flesh wound
